Evans sped down the street in his dark green Mercedes truck, the truck has seen better days, the windscreen had a deep gash running through the center which looked like a wound that has failed to heal properly, and his back tires looked as if they will fall out at any moment

Most of his days was spent making deliveries for his numerous customers, he was the most popular truck driver in the timber market and made more money than his contemporaries, well he will not be getting paid on this run, he was moving the remaining of his furniture to his new residence at Alpha Avenue, he loved his new neighbourhood particularly for its tranquility and the only thing that was disturbing that tranquility right now was the rumbling of his overloaded truck.

He has to drop off his furniture and his customers cement before noon, and the sun was almost halfway across the sky, he took a sharp U-turn an narrowly missed a Hausa beggar sitting by the road side, the Man rained abuses at Evans and made gestures with his cane, and by the look on the Man’s face Evans was glad the beggar was crippled because he had to slow down at the stop sign for people crossing the road. After the children crossed, he continued his driving but at a much safer speed, he did not want to get himself involved in any accident.

His new abode was three bedroom bungalow, and it was situated at the extreme end of the compound, from the looks of it, the house he rented was actually the boys quarters and work on the main building has not commenced, he had only one neighbour, a family of three, a Man and his two sons lived in the other half of the house and from the palm fronds that adorned their door they were obviously white garment worshippers, and since from the time Evans has been visiting the house, they were always strangely peeping at him from their house window whenever he came to drop off something at the house.

He dropped off his furniture and headed back to his delivery, he was spending his first night at his new apartment so he had to finish whatever he was doing and come back on time to put everything in order and also introduce himself to his new neighbour.

Evans made it back in time from his delivery, he went to the evening market to buy some rice he will cook for dinner, and He also bought tomatoes and other ingredients, when he got back home he washed the rice and set it on fire, then went over to greet his neighbour.

He knocked twice on his neighbour’s door and waited, the door opened a little and he saw that it was the oldest of the two boys. Hello, how are you? ,where is your dad, I live next door and I came to introduce myself, the boy stared at Evans as if he were seeing another human for a long time, he turned and started going back to his apartment when he saw a strange sight, little pigeons were flying all over the compound, and they concentrated more around his own end of the house, he wondered what may be the cause.

He looked towards the gate and saw his neighbour coming into the house, he stood and waited for him to get to where he was.
Good evening sir, my name is Evans, I am your new neighbour. Welcome Evans, my name is Damien, I live here with my two sons. I see you are still moving your things in.

I just brought in the remainder of my belongings this afternoon, so I am fully settled.
