GLOBAL JOURNALIST PART #2: Where Do Those Interesting News Stories Comes From?

in #life8 years ago

Some of the best news stories appear to come completely out of nowhere. So, how do journalists do it?

I'll start by saying there is nothing accidental about the process. The really interesting stories come from the best journalists who know where to look to look and where not to look. There is no luck involved.

So, what are the successful habits of the best journalists?

#1. They explore every avenue available.

Grit and determination is probably the difference between a good reporter and a great reporter. The great reporters are still working late on stories when all the others have given up for the day and gone home. The same can be said for great photographers too.

#2. They get out and about more.

You can't sit on your backside all day and expect good stories to walk in the door.

The best journalists will be out there in the field experiencing life first hand and probing away at various leads, or lurking at the back of a press conference looking for clues.

There is a saying that there is no such thing as a lucky lazy reporter.

#3. They keep their eagle eye open for potential stories.

The best reporters tend to filter nearly of their life experiences to look for potential stories.

An eagle eye can make stories appear almost everyday. The only part of life where they don't venture are their own private lives.

#4. They hang around events, campaign launches etc.

The best reporters love nothing more than to hang around any event, and they are never late. They love to get a feel for the event as well as the surrounding characters. Watch out for them at SteemFest!

The stories of the event tend not to be found not in the public part of the event, but in the time spend with those before and after the event. It's only when people are speaking informally are the good stories found.

So, look out for @ned afterwards at SteemFest!

Happy reporting.

Are those the Steemit rats that jumped ship early??

Yes! They ended up deep fried and fed to Steemit journalists covering the SteemFest!! Ha ha!

I'm sure somewhere in the world a journalist has been fed a fried rat!!

#5. Meticulousness
No factual errors whatsoever.

EXACTLY @thecentreofitall; a neurosis about getting things correct.

(or a passion for accuracy!)
