Science and spirituality: Reaching a synthesis

'Science' is not the be-all end-all of human society.

A great many discoveries have been made in the name of science, but also a great number of atrocities. Human experimentation in the CIA's infamous 'MK-Ultra' mind control program, or the torture and mutilation of prisoners of war, are just a couple of examples that spring to mind. Animals are still being tortured and experimented on to this day, but apparently it's okay, because 'science.'

It isn't so much science that I have a problem with, but rather, the scientists themselves. Science is a sound method for discovering truths about the way in which our reality is constructed, but 'scientists,' the ones who actually study the material sciences, are mere human beings. And human beings are subject to all kinds of delusions and perversions.

Some of the most intellectual amongst us also happen to be the most evil and tyrannical, because when an individual goes too far into the left hemisphere of the brain he will often neglect the spiritual and holistic qualities of the right-brain.

Many scientists, especially those who are willing to disregard ethical principles in the name of their chosen science, are so chronically left-brain imbalanced that they are borderline psychopathic. They may claim to study science in the name of human progress, but their humanity is all but dead. They see the universe as entirely mechanistic and unconscious, and the sentient beings that comprise it as mere cogs in the wheel. This is an incredibly unhealthy worldview to hold and one which is undoubtedly responsible for many ongoing atrocities.

True intelligence, rather than 'the illusory superiority of head over heart' that currently passes for intelligence, is seldom found in today's scientific community. I see much intellect and ego, but very little wisdom and understanding.

If science is to ever evolve, scientists must begin to understand that spirit and matter are of equal importance and ensure their scientific enquiries are 'guided by the moral qualities of the heart' rather than their egotism and pride.
