How to choose the best sling backpacks?

The shift towards minimalism made more and more travellers cut down on their load of “travel essentials” . The new trend “less is more” has seems to become a rule, thus only fewer will go for a 20L-30L capacity bag. Most of them prefer a more compact bag with an innovative design.

How do you know which one is the best? What should you be looking for when purchasing one? No worries! By the end of this blog post, we will know more on this topic and you will be able to select a model that will suit your needs perfectly.

Perfect blend of durability and lightweight

By design, sling bags are smaller, lighter than a backpack and patented to carry less heavy loads. That means you won't be able to fit in half of your wardrobe! If a heavy-duty sling bag is what you need, durability is what you should be looking for. You will want to select the best tactical sling backpack on the market!

Flexible adjustable strap

A good crossbody bag for travel must come equipped with a flexible, adjustable strap (preferably padded) to ensure a comfortable carrying experience. When you will have the bag on your back for longer periods of time, a breathable padded strap will prevent your shoulders from getting sweaty or aching. Ideally, a detachable/ attachable strap gives you the freedom to carry the bag the way you want. An overloaded sling bag will cause back pain, making your spine compress unnaturally which leads to a hunched posture.

Padded rear panel

Not all crossbody bags or sling bags feature a padded design of the back panel. Smaller bags do not require the padding, although it will be beneficial to have it. A padded rear panel offers the needed support while carrying a heavier load and avoids having the strap carving into your shoulder. Not to add that it prevents you from developing an one-sided pain.

Organisation

In order to find the best tactical sling backpack , you will have to look for a bag with great organizational features such as: a designated padded compartment for laptop and tablet, secret compartment for valuables, zippered gussets for essential items, cell phone pocket, concealed pockets for cards, slots for your pens and other small items. Basically, a bag that offers multiple storage compartments with more pockets than you can think off, will help you stay organised. Thus you won`t need to go through the entire bag to find a single item. It will save you time, energy and allow you to focus more on your day.

Quick and convenient access

The greatest feature of a sling bag is the fact that you can easily shift it from the back to the chest within seconds. Whenever you need to have access to your belongings on the go, you can access your bag without removing from your shoulder.

Anti theft features

A secure travel backpack will be a slash proof bag that features one or two USB ports. In addition to these, hidden card slots on the strap and a secure zippered compartment on the back panel will reduce the risks of theft.

You can look online for anti theft sling bag reviews and read more on the topic. Therefore you will be able to compare between various models and brands and take an informed decision.

A great write up about options for sling paks, I used to use and still have a camera slingshot pack, but now use a satchel pack more often than not it is set up just right for me to carry the camera gear and devices I need on my daily trips into the city for work

I was a fan of backpacks until I got a slingshot as a present. I wasn't too thrilled about it but when I wore it I loved it. Ditched the backpack and switched to the slingshot.

I used the slingshot I had ( the first one till it was starting to fall apart in places so got the second one, I still use it sometimes on weekends on photo walks, they are so handy for sure and comfortable, regular backpacks never worked with me I always wore them with just one strap over my shoulder anyway

I probably should have read this a year ago, before I bought my sling pack. I use it for my Nikon and carry it in front most of the time. It works really well for carrying the camera and has an added bonus of being easy to strap to the motorcycle.

I've worn it while riding several times when I know I'm in a 'photo rich environment'. It really is handy, versatile and comfortable. After reading this I'll have some 'consider points' for the next one :)

Thank you.

Sling bags (not only those designed for DSLR cameras) are pretty cool! I got hooked on them a few years back!

A sling pack might be the sort of thing I would look for next time... at the moment, I've got a couple of TimBuk2 messenger bags that are pretty awesome... except that I tend to pack them with lots of metal and they get a touch heavy!

TimBuk2 are awesome indeed, though a bit pricy compared to those above. May I ask what metal are you loading you sling pack with? ;0)

Sadly... Nothing more interesting than electronics! They are pretty pricey bags, my brother bought me my first one... And it had lasted about 5 years and is still going strong...

Great selection. Useful post!
