Today is a big day for me, for 7 years I've worked as a nurse/care giver at the S.A.B.A. on the island of Aruba, and this is where you go to if you've reached a certain age (mostly 60+) where you no longer can take care of yourself or you don't have anyone anymore to take care of you. For 7 years I helped with bathing, feeding and everything else that comes with taking care of elders. I really liked the job and I learned alot among the years, but at a certain stage I wanted to do more not only for the elders but also for myself.
Somewhere along those 7 years running, bitcoin, steemit and cryptocurrencies in general came into the picture and this literally changed my life. I started off using multiple faucets that where giving away a couple of satoshi's every hour after that I started solving captcha's for bitcoin but all of that with the goal to start giving back to my job in the form of donations and at the same time teach them how accepting cryptocurrencies as donations could really help them out in getting all the equipment that they need.
I had no luck or they didn't really see my vision or understand it eventhough I showed them many times how I could easily exchange any crytocurrency to Bitcoin and then sell those Bitcoin's for fiat money which they could use to better the care in general. It's really hard to buy Bitcoin's in Aruba so the one's who understand it are quickly to buy from you if you have some.
There was a time I took some of the elder's to the movies and casino and last year I even bought a fake christmas tree with lights and decoration so that they can feel that christmas spirit when it's christmas time. I did all this with the help of some type of cryptocurrency mostly Steem, Ethereum, Arubacoin, Monero and then exchanging it to Bitcoin and selling this for fiat for me to pay for this since most places here don't accept Bitcoin's as payment method.
Many times it was hard being a young male nurse in this sector since you work mostly with females and all the heavy work and difficult patient's were given to me or to another male colleague and at first I didn't mind at all because I love helping out and since I'm younger and energetic it was all good atleast I thought. After some time I started being cranky and with no motivation at all and always tired. I started taking less care of myself and it came to a point that all the stress started affecting my relationship until one day my girlfriend took me running.
Running became the way for me to blow all the steam out. At first I couldn't even run 1km and I would cry in anger because I knew it was my own fault of letting myself get to a point where I coudln't even run 1km. But after a while it was the only way for me to find total peace in my mind atleast for some minutes daily and also I way for me to get mentally stronger to face everything that was going on.
I started competing in 5Km and then 10Km and now I do a long run of atleast +10Km every weekend. The next upcoming event I am taking part of will test myself in every single way, it's called the "Ronde Van Aruba" and it literally mean a round or circle around the island of Aruba. It's 72Km in total but devided into 8 races and some do it solo, some do it duo and some do it in team's of 4. This year I'll be doing this a team of 4 represting Viper Strong.
Steemit was the most helpfull tool of all tools I've used because it helped my keep track of my running while motivating myself and other's and earning some out of it with blogging. It's a great place for amazing articles in general and also better than most of the other social media sites. It was the first time that I ever wrote about anything since my school day's, but it slowly woke up a passion for tech that I always had as a child growing up around computers.
So today I start a new journey at ArubaToday. ArubaToday is the only english newspaper on the island of Aruba and I will be helping there with the social media part and also uploading the articles to their site. I started off just helping so I could get some of my ArubaCoin content out and afterwards I got offered to do this as a actual job since it was going really well, now I'll even learn how to record video's and edit them and also I'll be going to writting classes so I can start writting my own cryptosection in the newspaper. So overall I'm really glad I got into running and cryptocrurrency in general and I really believe now is when I truly will have more time to blog more on Steem and even better my articles. I thank all who took their time to read this and wish you all a great and amazing new month filled with positivity and blessings.
Great job! So nice of you to take them out!
I guess it's hard to understand the whole thing if you've never heard about Bitcoin and all the stuff before.
I'm glad you found a new way! :) Good luck with it
But in order to make dreams come into reality,
it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication,
self-discipline, and effort.
