I never thought of myself as a cat person until...

in #life7 years ago

Growing up I always imagined I'd adopt a dog from a shelter once I was an adult or had a kid of my own.
Why dogs? Because you know, they're friendly, loyal, playful... They're like this fluffy plush you received as a gift on your sixth birthday that you've kept till now. Also growing up, cats where always strays, wondering the streets and looking for food in garbage bins.

Little did I know my partner and i would end up adopting, and loving, Koukou - Haiitian for oak tree (I just came to learn while writing this post haha) - the cat.
And speaking of 6th birthdays, Koukou's turning 6 this upcoming month!

It all started when our friends started adopting cats. We'd visit them and find ourselves petting them.
Next thing we know, we're on Kijiji, and the next morning, picking him up at only 2 months old.

We knew little to nothing about cats, even as he was purring we were googling what it meant . 6 years later, we've learnt that cats can indeed be very friendly, they understand and learn tricks, show compassion, wait for you at the door when you've been gone for too long, playful, and always there when you're feeling ill, to name a few hehe. About Koukou in particular, well we've learnt his super love - and shall I say 'addiction' - for food, green veggies, treats, and dips! We've really grown to love him unconditionally, and we appreciate the role he's played in our lives so far.

Happy Early Birthday Kouks! We love you floufon!

I'd love to hear some animal adoption stories, maybe some tips on how to teach cats tricks too! :)
Have a great one fellow Steemians

When a family cat died in ancient Egypt, family members would mourn by shaving off their eyebrows. They also held elaborate funerals during which they drank wine and beat their breasts. The cat was embalmed with a sculpted wooden mask and the tiny mummy was placed in the family tomb or in a pet cemetery with tiny mummies of mice.
