Traveling to Dubrovnik. And what you need to know

in #life8 years ago

Hi there dear steemians!
Have you ever considered a trip to Dubrovnik? Or maybe you'll better know it as King's Landing where they gather best olympic skydive team, starting with King Tommen?

In land where war ended years ago, and people are still dumb enough to argue who's better, Croats or Serbs, on the south is positioned one of top 3 coastal towns. Dubrovnik. It's really beautiful town. For a week. Why just a week you ask? Well, it's goddamn expensive, that's why. I'm studying there so I can tell.

So for start, prepare your passport and don't be shocked when you get to pass 2 board controls, that because you're passing through city of Neum (that's Bosnia). After that gone be ready for 1 hour more of driving, yes it is exhausting. But once you arrive it will be worth it.

So what to do?
First things first. Find accommodation in other part of town (Lapad). It's much cheaper then places closer the old town. And it's better surrounding. From there you're just 35-45 mins light walk from the old town. If you don't like walking take bus no.6 from Lapad (Grandma's hip) or no.4 form Lapad(Palace Hotel). Or you can go on Couchsurfing and find a host there. CS is good also for getting in touch with locals, you can have your own tour guide!

So after you unpack your bags and get refreshed, take your camera and start your visit!

  1. City wall tour.
It takes you about 1 hour to go all around, maybe more when you stop to enjoy the view

  1. Explore Stradun! You'll find a lot of nice small streets inside the old town, they are all connected to one main street, Stradun. If you're planing to sit on a drink in an old town to grab a glass of cold beer I recommend Exit rock cafe. It's not expensive and excellent music choice.

  1. Visiting Lokrum is a MUST! It's small island right in front of Dubrovnik old city. You'll see it's a special place once you step foot on it. Lokrum is a nature resetve and a specail forest vegetation reserve. You'll see a lot of animals there and well preserved sights like this.
