Sort:  

Step 1. Check to see if there is enough coolant in the radiator overflow tank. If there is no coolant there, then there is likely a leak.

Step 2. Replace the radiator cap. A worn radiator cap won't hold pressure causing overheating.

Step 3. Check to see if the radiator fan is turning on when the engine gets hot. If it is not turning on, there may be a broken temperature switch that activates the fan or a fuse that is bad.
