It actually happened like that last year and tied it to tree then, I noticed sometime in January that my son and his cousins had cut the loosened the string while playing. It no longer needed it as it was upright so I left it. The tree is located at the junctions of the surrounding buildings so I guess the speed of the wind at that spot is always very high.
