Dwarf Pawpaw Tree Is Surviving
Hello Steemians,
I made a post 17 days about some dwarf Pawpaw trees I transplanted from where they were crowded together and faced the possibility of dying if not separated, you can find the post
here. I have been watering the tree and my son has been helping me out when I am very busy or not around to do so.
Initially some of the leaves were turning brownish yellow and falling off, that happened the first three day and I was wondering if I had done something wrong which may be responsible for that. I did a flash back recall of how I did the transplant and just couldn't discover were I went wrong. Anyways, by the fifth day the leaves had stopped falling off and the ones that remained did not change colour, they remained green which was a good sign that they will survive. I discovered that the problem was the harmattan weather that was prevailing when I made the transplant, the weather was just drying up everything up, causing the environment to be excessively dusty and making the rain to stay away. To curtail the excesses or the harmattan weather we had to be watering the plants in the morning and in the night, my son sometimes gives the plants extra treat by watering them in the afternoons.
I had planted turmeric as well and was hoping the dry weather will not burn them inside the ground. For now the dwarf pawpaw trees that I can see on the surface are doing very well, I continue to drop rabbit dung and urine on the foot of the trees as fertilizer for the trees. Every thing feed to the ground for the growth of the plants and trees are natural fertilizers that we process from rabbit waste, food waste, dead leaves and water. This works wonders for our plants and trees which also makes them grow very fast when compared to those of my neighbours.
After eight to ten months the Pawpaw tree will be matured enough and be ready to pluck. That has been my experience with the regular pawpaw we have in the compound, but I do not know how long it takes a dwarf Pawpaw tree to mature and be ready to pluck. I am assuming it shouldn't matter or should it? I am looking at this from the human angle though, it doesn't matter the height one is, we all mature about the same time don't we? I leave that for the experts to decide though, for me I'll monitor them the same way I monitor the regular Pawpaw tree.
My awesome Pawpaw tree with multiple branches
I've had some people say they don't know what a Pawpaw tree or fruit is each time I have posted abot the fruit or the plant, well above is a pawpaw tree with its fruits look like and below is what the fruits look like.
They are very delicious and nutritive. They are also used in making traditional medicine remedies for Malaria and Typhoid treatments which you see been used a lot in villages were modern medicinal treatment is not close to reach or are too expensive. I see people who have relocated to the city still using them for treatment as they believe it is more potent than modern medicine. What I don't

It's amazing how a big tree grows from such a small sprout. Great message. Thank you for sharing
