How Has Social Media Changed The World?
You probably use social media everyday, Whether it's Steemit, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. I remember being a teen. When social media became a thing. MySpace was the greatest thing in the world, and I was so addicted.
Social Media has dramatically changed the world, Its no longer uncommon for your whole family to be on Facebook. Or even your Grandma.
We Have Stronger Opinions.
It's much harder to say things to peoples faces. It's much easier to say it online. Because of this, We have formulated stronger opinions. Plus with the world of information in front of you, It's not hard to do your research and study up on subjects you like.
People are smarter as a result. We seem a lot more attached to our current opinions as a result. You often see huge arguments over random subjects online.
Talk to Almost anyone!
Almost everyone is on social media. Whether they are on one site, Or ten sites, Its not hard to find the people you want to talk to. I've met and networked with countless people online. It makes a big difference.
We Can Make A Difference!
Many companies have heard our opinions using social media. HEck, You can probably go on the Domino's Pizza page on Facebook, And complain about your recent experience. Someone from Dominos will get a hold of you to solve the issue. Social Media can have an effect on brands now, because if a company hears repeated complaints they can adjust accordingly. Bringing back old favorites. Or changing the way they run their businesses.
Employment Opportunities
Depending on what you post, It can hurt or improve your chances for a job. If you post a lot of questionable things on your facebook, You may not get a job at your interview. But also being able to reach anyone using social media, You can get ahead by befriending people already working for the company you're looking at, And use them as a reference.
Easier For Small Businesses To Advertise.
Small Businesses often cannot afford to have a billboard. Or some fancy way of advertising. They can often reach a lot of people using social media. Finding people who would be interested in their product and promoting it directly to the source!
As a small business owner, I have found great benefit in this.
Social media does have some downfalls. But for the most part, It's had a positive impact on life.
It's MUCH harder for the vested interests such as the major political parties, the mainstream media and the large corporations, to control public opinion now.
They were slow to realize this and now that they do they are NOT happy about it. They have always felt that it was their sole perogative to lie and spread fake news. Now that they have been 'outed they are NOT happy campers.
Oh I love this! It's true. I feel like some of those false videos and info on Facebook, Can sometimes be bad for society too.

Good points you make in your post. I also think social media has hindered a younger generation in developing their social skills and ability to think criticaly and creatively just a little bit.
I was a free range kid and my parents had to drag me home way after dark each day because I was out playing. As a result, I have never been bored a day of my life. I hear lots of young people complaining how bored they are so often and I just don't get it.
I think social media has something to do with it. They're so used to being entertained that they can't entertain themselves.
Agreed! I plan to write another post about the negative effects of social media later on.
