Say thank you more often, be friendly, think positive

THANK YOU

Dear fellow Steemians!

As my nickname already suggests: I work as a dentist.
In our office we see a huge number of patients every single week. Young and old, men and women, afraid and fearless, happy and sad, calm and furious. The society, our job and daily duties demand a lot of strength. The world spins faster than ever before. Finding the balance is almost impossible.

I guess everybody tries to do their best every single day during their job. No matter if you are fixing cars, help elderly, work at the bank or repair teeth. In case you run your own business, it's even more important to satisfy your clients, customers or patients. Happy patients attract more patients. But that's actually not the reason for my post.

My personal experience is that if I listen to the patients, explain the procedure in detail and offer my time to answer their question, they are satisfied in most cases. Whenever you are friendly and open-minded you reach your goal in 99 out of 100 cases. If you walk around with a frown on your face all the time, you will definitely receive no smiles.

What goes around, comes around.

Of course it's important to explain the possible side effects and risks of the procedure. Most complications occur very rarely. Scared patients often see only the bad side of the treatment: Postoperative pain, swelling and so on. They forget about the actual pain the tooth is causing right now, the bad breath and ongoing bone loss because of the existing periodontitis or the new smile they are rewarded with after the treatment.

This week was a "THANK YOU" week. I can't remember a week during 2017 where that many people said thank you. They said thank you for treating them gently, for prompt appointments, for a well organized office and a great team effort, for making a treatment possible in a short time period, for giving honest advise, for saving teeth that should have been extracted, for playing with their children during their first dental appointment ever and for offering appointments outside of the regular opening hours. It's an overwhelming feeling to hear all this positive feedback. This feedback drives me every day to go to work, get better at my profession, keep learning and provide value for my patients and the community.

My take away message:

  • Say Thank you whenever and wherever you can
  • Be friendly and you receive a bright smile
  • Don't expect the worst. Think positive!

Happy weekend😃

Good stuff. It may be a cliche but it's so true that even a smile towards someone can change their day.
Nothing is ever perfect, but whatever you focus on is what grows.

Yes, saying "thank you" goes a long way. Just having good manners and treating others with simple kindness does a lot more than we think.

And we get to see the fruit of that when we see that kindness reciprocated back to us.

Too bad that many people try to work their way with aggressiveness and anger. Let's hope for the best and smile:)
