Sometimes if something isn't working, you just have to give up and move on.
Most of the time people will tell you if you put your nose to the grindstone you can make anything work.
That holds true for the most part.
However, the time may come a time when you discover something just isn't working no matter how much effort you pour into it.
Should you continue trying forever even though it isn't working?

Our normal training procedure takes about 7 days.
I train people in my restaurant nearly every single day.
The training is expensive and not everyone is able to make it through. I'd say maybe two out of five people make it through. Most people that are obviously not going to make it through will drop out of the training.
On the other hand..... we will tell you that you're not going to make it if it's pretty obvious.
If somebody is really trying very hard we will often give them more chances than someone that is not putting in a lot of effort.
Such is the case with young Daniel who has been training for about a month now. He just can't seem to figure out how to retain the information. It's obvious that he is giving us his best.
It seems obvious to me also though that he just can't seem to make it work. Everyday he comes and tries all he can and spends all day with us. It's been a month now and he's not making very much money because he's just training.

It seems clear that he's just not cut out for the restaurant business.
Not everybody is.
I see this kind of thing everyday. People put in a ton of effort into something that isn't working.
I'm not saying anyone should give up on their dreams.
It can often take a long time to make something work. Rome wasn't built in a day. So they say.
Of course they weren't there so no one really knows how long it took to build Rome.
But I digress.
If you are putting in more effort into something then you're getting out of it then sometimes it's better to find something that does work.
Not every job is right for every person.
Sometimes if something isn't working, you just have to give up and move on.
Oh, poor guy! Daniel probably needs the job really bad. I am sure he is about as happy as you are about his progress.

... but I know you meant it in other terms...letting something go off is what you meant. I fully agree. Holding on to something that's not working not only gives you negative feelings but also wastes your time.
Definitely. Don't give up on your dreams....... but if it's just something small then sometimes it's better to give up and move on.

Poor Daniel. Not everyone can be good at everything! We all have our strengths and weaknesses. At least he is trying and sticking with it. Some people don't give new things much effort before they give up and quit.
Although I do agree with your statement....... sometimes it's better to move on that it is to just stick around when it isn't happening.
