A Jeezzle Movie Review: 42

in #life7 years ago

42 is the tale of Jackie Robinson's rise to fame as the first African American to play Major League Baseball.

Jackie Robinson was an amazing human being who went up against many struggles when the world was full of racism.

Sometimes we forget what the world was like, but it's important to remember.

42 is the true story of an American Legend.

Every now and then you find yourself browsing through one of your streaming sites and come across a movie that seems intriguing but you're not sure if it's worth your time.

That was the case when I came across 42 on HBO.

Of course I knew who Jackie Robinson was but I hadn't heard of this movie.

I decided to give it a try so here is my full review.

Who's in it?

Chadwick Boseman
Harrison Ford
Nicole Beharie
Christopher Meloni
Ryan Merriman
Lucas Black
Andre Holland
Alan Tudyk
Harnish linklater

First of all I have to say that Chadwick Boseman looks a heck of a lot like Jackie Robinson. I had never heard of the guy before but he does a really good job portraying the baseball player.

Harrison Ford is obviously the most recognizable actor.

He plays Branch Rickey, an executive who was president of the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Branch Rickey signed Jackie Robinson and was the man that broke the color barrier.

Ricky knew that the unwritten rule against hiring black players was wrong...... but also that it was wrong from a financial standpoint.

Harrison Ford plays the man brilliantly.

What's the plot?

Well the plot in this movie is fairly self explanatory.

Jackie Robinson is hired to the Brooklyn Dodgers and faces a lot of discrimination.

It's one thing to know the plot though and another thing to see it in action.

42 is the story of triumph over adversity.

It shows us what true strength is.

Jackie Robinson knew he was going to be berated but he stood tall and listened to all of the insults from the ignorant people.

He couldn't give into his own anger though.

All he could do is swing his bat and steal his bases and play the game.

It's easy for us to forget that racism didn't end with the civil war.

When Jackie Robinson was signed to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 it was still quite rampant.

Some people were trying to change but change was difficult.

Is it good?

42 is an amazing movie.

All of the actors hit all the right notes.

Chadwick Boseman and Harrison Ford are perfect in their roles as Jackie Robinson and Branch Rickey.

You sympathize with the characters.

You'll be sad and angry and ultimately joyful.

Wouldn't you love to go see an actual game that Jackie Robinson played in?

Well you can't.

You can see this excellent movie though and get a detailed look at Jackie Robinson's life with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and how racism in Major League Baseball was ultimately defeated with a few brave men.
