I HATE CONVENTIONS: THEY ARE DEADLY!

in #life7 years ago

Conventions are just a product of some individual perceptions patched up together to form the standard for living. Is it not funny how that some persons sit somewhere to decide what our life's philosophy(ies) should be and call it standard. Conventions are inhibitory and in many ways, place limits to how far man's abilities can be exploited. A retrospective step into historical events will show us how that most of the things we celebrate today( from the aeroplane, Henry Ford's assembly line to the so much recommended and revered Fosbury jump) came to be as a result of some persons resolve to question conventions, irrespective of how the world felt about their ideas at that time.

“ Convention, like Saturn, is a jealous god and eats its babies.--Marty Rubin

Conventions will tell you that if it is not the popular way, it then must be wrong. Funny enough, a man who is heading for the crown is often advised to eschew the crowd. It does not have to be popular to be right!

Is it not funny how that we got born into a world where the scripts of our individual lives had long been written even before our parents coupulated to conceive us. The aftermath of which was a case where we arrived the world only to be saddled with our well orchestrated roles. This in a way accounts for why we still struggle in our late thirties trying to discover our purpose in life. I can almost imagine what would become of a forty year old man who is still busy trying to discover his purpose in life, when even a twelve year old girl is fulfilling hers already. Conventions are cruel! They make us fulfill our parents or society's wishes of us becoming doctors, engineers, lawyers et al, while our real persona yearns for expression.

For instance:
They say, "he who laughs last laughs last best." Then I ask, "why wait to laugh last when you can always laugh?!" One is even forced to wonder how laughter ever became a competition. The last time i waited to laugh last, I lost out completely. Hence there was no laughter at all. But, imagine if I had started laughing earlier!

They say, "there is light at the end of every tunnel." How many of us have ever confirmed this to be true?! What happens if there is no light at the end of my own tunnel eventually? But what if instead forging ahead like a directionless ideologue, I sat down to make my findings about my tunnel, thereby changing my route timely enough?

They say, "a patient dog eats the fattest bone." This particular one gets me really exasperated. Why does the dog have to wait for the fattest bone when it can have the flesh? If you stick to this conventional illusion, you will so die waiting.
These and many other conventional illusions are the many things we need to question. You must not let anyone box you to a stereotype in the name of conventional wisdom. Nobody must define what life or success is for you you, but you! It is high time you stopped stomaching and regurgitating other people's philosophies about life. You must have your philosophies about your life.

Today they tell us sugar is good and that margarine is bad; tomorrow they come back to say margarine is rather good, that sugar is bad. Conventions are false assumptions built on no empirical evidence and therefore, must be questioned.
How do you perceive your world? Yes! You have perceptions, everyone does. Build your success, life, dreams, goals et al, upon your perceptions of the world. Recreate your realities and reinvent yourself consequent upon how you perceive your world. Let no man define life for you. You alone have that prerogative to do so.

Remember: That it has not been done before is not enough indication that it can not be. The world is waiting for you to against all conventional odds take the lead. To the world you are wrong up till the moment you prove them wrong.

Nice post dear. You got it right. The fact is that conventions restricts people. There was a day my brother's friend did not achieve an aim while his friend did, and he was trying to console himself, so he said "well, all fingers are not equal"

I shouted at him and told him even though all fingers are not equal, he should not allow his own to be the shortest.

In fact, I hate some of this adages as they don't allow a lot of people to try to do better.

You are so on point bro!
You just cited a very perfect example. A quote the ruling elite of those days used to pacify the oppressed.
Thanks a lot for the comment and upvote.
