Bombing a Mountain on a Longboard, While It's Starting To Rain! Scary, But Fun!
Hello Fellow Steemitans!
I want to do a little throw back today to one of the first major events I went to in the Longboarding world.
Giants Head Freeride 2015!
This event takes place in Summerland BC, Canada, on the mountain called Giants Head. It used to be a spot where the locals and the longboarders would clash, because with people driving up the road often, skaters coming down run the risk of getting hit. And although the skaters do do everything they can to be safe, the locals didn't understand and viewed it negatively.
In comes Lanyachtz Longboards!
Lanytachtz present the idea of closing the road 3 days a year, to allow skaters to ride their favourite hill safely. This became the event known as Giants Head Freeride! They put hay bales, and netting around the corners to keep riders from falling off the hill, or loosing their boards. They also have a number of ramps, and wall rides along the hill. These are only hit by the most daring of riders, but they have since stopped building them for this event. Fine by me cause they were terrifying!
Once you get to the bottom, you all cram into box trucks, and they haul you back to the top of the hill to do it all again. This event is like is like a music festivals for music lovers, but for longboarders who love gnarly hills. After the event everyone goes back to the campgrounds, which usually turns into a giant party. I made many friends there that year, most of which I only ever see at skate events, but none the less good friends. I got to say there is something about the danger of hurtling down a hill like a rollercoasters, with a group of strangers, that bonds you in a way I feel only a fellow downhill boarder knows. This is why longboarders refer to their distant skate friends, as their Skate Family.
Keep in mind I have gotten a lot better since this, I just wanted to show where I started, so you can see the progression over the years.
If you want to see how much better I got, watch my Giants Head video from last year:

I'm guessing you have broken some bones in the past. lol
Only one fracture, and it was from doing tricks drunk, on flat ground.
