THEY NEED SOMETHING MORE THAN SYMPATHY: WE NEED TO DO BETTER TO HELP THEM
Hello guys, this is Hermann. Today I will be expressing my concerns and thoughts on why we need to do more for under privilege, hungry, thirsty, needy people in our community than just sympathize with them. It really pains me when I look at such people and how they live. I put myself in their situation and I can feel their pain and sufferings, their longings for care and provisions, always worrying about what they will eat or drink, how they will survive the next day. It really gets to me and all I can say is, how I wish I can do more for such people but that does not mean I cannot do something for them with the little I have.
That is one of my main points for today. Many out there think that you need a lot to help such people but the truth is even with a little be it just a bottle of water, sacrificing your lunch, spending time and showing love to them goes to play an important part in their lives and even gives them hope.
While some try to help with the little they have, a good number of people out there who actually can do something quite substantial for such people tend to do nothing. They only express their sympathy and pity for such people but the question is "how does that help them when you are capable to help them but you don't?
So what I am saying here, these people need more than just our sympathy and pity, they need empathy and love, they need our help, they need someone to stand for them.
It is rather unfortunate, that so many rich people out there fail to look down on such people. They drop one cent into the collection baskets and spend thousands and so much more into their luxurious way of living. Most of them are only concerned about growing their account numbers, saving so much, like they say " the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer."
We can always spare a little for such people. This is not about asking you to empty all what you have into the collection basket but pushing you to do something more for this people. I have seen great men who were very rich and wealthy die but they were all but forgotten memories in the hearts of all because they did nothing to impact a life that could in turn live to remember them but all they cared about was getting rich and richer by the day. Too bad wealth, property, cars etc will not live to talk about you, or testify of you but your fellow human beings and what you did for them or the impact you created in their lives could carry you as a living testimony through out their lives.
A practical example is, I don't even know the richest man in the world at the moment or past 5 yrs but I can fully remember some great men who have died a long time ago because of what they did and how it influenced my life.
Talking of great men, great men, I have three in mind that I remember and know that stood up for change and what they believed in. They fought so hard knowing they might not enjoy the end results or even live to see that day but they fought to better they lives of others.
- Martin Luther King Jr
2.nNelson Mandela
These two are one of my own very best changemakers, they did something quite great that many today enjoy and many remember them and their memory is quite fresh in the minds of most. The only thing that made them fight so hard is because they had their own share of the problem. They were part of those that suffered of the differences in their communities and that is why they stood up for change. To achieve change, you must have a good understanding of what the problem is or put yourself in the person's place suffering and feel for him/her. Only then will you be truly motivated and determined to bring the change.
That is why if we must better the lives of those around us, those that need our help, those struggling so hard out there to survive, then we must feel their pain, we must feel their sorrow, their anguish, their need etc. WE MUST FEEL FOR THEM. That is it and how can we feel for them if we cannot put ourselves in their place and imagine what they are going through.
We can do better and I think everyone of us can do better. Take it upon yourself to impact the lives of your fellow brothers and sisters, the children out there in need. Take the chance and impact your society in any little way you can. Be remembered for something you did in the lives of others. Be a living memory in the hearts of others when you are no more. It is operation "make the world glow".
And before I forget, I talked of three changemakers that stood up for change and I only mentioned Mr Martin Luther King Jr and Nelson Mandela. Well guess who number three is??
