#tellyourstory entry. Something like a second introduction I guess.

in #life7 years ago

So what is all of this? Why a second intro?

Well if you have been on Steemit for awhile you have probably stumbled upon one of them contests made to give some exposure and rewards to minnows. This is exactly that and you can read more about it here: https://steemit.com/contest/@varunsangwan/gteik-tell-your-story-contest-prizes-for-everyone
For this contest you have to make a separate post and tell your story including- Your life before steemit?

This will be my very first contest entry (if we exclude one small one that needed a random guess in the comments) so don't be too harsh on me! :)

My life before Steemit..

Hello, again! My name is Georgi and I am a Bulgarian living in London. When I think how random my background sounds I feel like people might have a hard time believing a lot of the things I do or am trying to do. I was a very active kid, always into sports and arts and at a very early age I started training acrobatics and singing in a choir. Ever since, music and sports have been a huge part of my life. In my teenage years I used to be one of them weird kids that were doing a lot of sports (freerunning and gymnastics at the time) and being a total geek at the same time (playing loads of video games and Magic the Gathering). It does sound like an odd combination doesn't it? Like the cool kid from these American movies that is the captain of the football team in college but gets the lead roll in the school musical. And when I mentioned musicals.. I did play in a few of them later on.. and I did have 3 lead roles as well. But before I get to that lets see how George became a musician after all he did in high school was to run around buildings, flipping and trying to break his bones.. then gets injured and stayed home playing video games for hours.

Yep.. you guessed it right. That flying man is me.

As I was getting closer to graduating I needed to think about university and since I was always an artsy or sports person I wasn't seeing myself working behind a desk in the future. Last few years of high school I got quite interested in drawing too so the dilemma was set - do I pursue singing or drawing? Well music won over at the time and I started preparing really hard so I can get into the Musical Academy in Sofia. It took quite a bit of sweat but I did get in with pretty good grades and the most interesting part of my story begins..

Now I learned a lot in the first 2 years of my study in the academy and I was trying to take part in every activity I could. That included participating in a musical every year. I played the scarecrow in 'The Wiz', then we had a pretty successful run of 'Fame' where I was playing as the composer/pianist (this was the first time I had to sing and play the piano at the same time on stage), then I participated in 'Footloose' with a minor role and as a dancer and last but not least I played in what was one of the greatest experiences in my life - 'Memphis' the musical. 'Memphis' was an international project involving people from all over the world and it was sponsored by the American embassy as well as quite a bit more companies. The cast was massive and we did a tour around 6 cities. I was playing the lead male role and It was something I will always remember.

After participating in musicals I got noticed by a studio that does voice over translations for Nikelodeon and Disney. They contacted me and that is how I started doing it as a part time job. Making all of these animated characters come to life is the most fun job in the world! For over two years I was making these recordings and every time I stepped in the studio it was great fun. I did enter the musical TV and radio scenes as well. Joined a boy band that already had some success since it came out of a reality show and we had a couple of singles that were on every TV and radio channel in the country. Even though it's been quite awhile since we disbanded I am sure they still run some of our videos here and there occasionally. Just remembered I have to collect my royalties when I get back home.. hehe thanks Steemit contests for this!

I kept on being a geek even after I started doing music and I changed the trading card games for table top games (just when you thought it couldn't get worse..). I started playing games like Warhammer and having a lot of fun painting miniatures. After my band disbanded (I won't be going in too deep into the matter it was a painfully annoying experience and it will take a chunk of this post to explain) and I got my music degree it was time to get into the real world and find a job. Music was there as a part time thing for the moment and very fast I realised I won't be pursuing it in Bulgaria. Needed a job so I can save enough money and move to London (A place I wanted to live for a long while). So I started working a normal one at an online marketing company as a sales agent (how boring..) and I hated it! It just wasn't for me.. office work.. sitting at a desk disturbing people on the phone.. bleh! And the opportunity came out of nowhere.. a friend of mine bought a ton of miniatures.. saw I wasn't too bad at painting them and asked me to paint them for him for a fair amount of money. I accepted of course trying to make money out of everywhere thinking it was a one time thing. But people around the geek community I was in quite liked the job I've done so kept giving me more and more commissions. Before I knew it I have left my boring job, moved into my fathers office and was painting miniatures 50 hours a week. Was the only one in Bulgaria doing it (at least for Bulgarians, others ship them to foreign countries) so I had tons of work. Before I came to the UK I've painted about 2000 models! My plans for UK kept changing.. I wanted to pursue music, then I wanted to try and open a studio for miniature painting. Nowadays I paint for myself mainly and I still love it.. I do blog about it and you can even check some of my work if you roam around my profile.

Then I came to the UK

Ok so I arrived at the UK with X amount of money in my pocket and it was running fast (London is an expensive place). I didn't care what job but I needed it fast so I can move out of my friends couch and start paying them bills. Was really lucky as a friend of mine contacted me and got me a job at the poker club she was working at. I knew how to play poker but never really did in a casino or anything.. only played with friends. Haven't handled chips before or seen a dealer work. Well almost two years later I'm one of the two head dealers at the place, helping with running tournaments sometimes and dealing the private cash games. Quite happy with the job and even though the pay is great I needed to pursue some king of a carrier so I picked the 3rd thing I was good at and doing since I was a kid - sports. At the moment I am a certified fitness instructor and on my to becoming a Personal Trainer. (I told you.. my CV is too random.)

So as for my hobbies they are quite a bit including - gaming, painting, music, sports, travelling.

My blog is a reflection of my interests and hobbies so it includes - painting, singing, travelling for now and am planning on getting into doing sports as well.

My best and worst experiences on the platform?

Well the best was maybe after I got discovered by a curators guild or 'The curators guild' I don't really know because I'm quite new and I needed a bit of research to learn who to thank for pumping my post from 0.09$ to 155$ in a minute. Very much appreciated and a really nice initiative for helping new comers and making them feel their work is appreciated!

As for the worst experience (this will be embarrassing.. ) I did lock myself out of my account.(yep I'm and idiot.) I decided to change my password right after my intro post got a bit of success and thinking I saved the new one I closed everything only to find later on I didn't save anything at all. Oh well 2 weeks without steemit and hoping steem support will approve me for an account recovery, here I am writing another 'intro' post for a contest.

Who introduced me to Steemit.

Now this person I know from a video game (Yes! A video game!) and we met in it about 5 or 6 years ago and are still playing online games together or just chat all the time. @yaan has been a friend ever since and we always give each other advice for whatever we are doing. One day he gave me a hint for the crypto market going bananas and told me he joined this online social media that rewards users with cryptocurrencies. Didn't take me too long to read about it and join so here I am!

Life after steemit

I've been here only for a month but in that time I started doing something I haven't ever done before and I am doing it quite regularly now - blogging. I rarely post on other social medias.. usually only read and comment here and there on my friends posts but Steem gave me the freedom to share my interests and thoughts and I have been posting at least once a day,  very often these gigantic posts with enough written in them to bore evenyone reading including myself.

Hope you enjoyed the read and that it fits the format for the challenge. Have a great day and see you around!

Wow! Amazing piece! I hope I can write the same way as you. You mentioned a lot of things that you did, wow again! It's too much for me to remember cv. Sports, Music, Acting. You were a celebrity back then- Sales Agent, Dealer at Casino then becoming a fitness instructor, let me know if I miss something. And oohh future multi-billionaire steemian, how about that?

I played Magic the Gathering for just probably few months then I just stop playing, I got bored, I guess. Also because the rare cards here are a bit pricey lol

"One day he gave me a hint for the crypto market going bananas and told me he joined this online social media that rewards users with cryptocurrencies. Didn't take me too long to read about it and join so here I am!"
Good for you. It took me 2 months before I could really get all these crypto stuff in my head. It's mind blowing. What do I know about digital currency? I am just an island girl lol. Even now I get a little confused with this market.

"very often these gigantic posts with enough written in them to bore everyone reading including myself. "
You know I noticed even though I was only on steemit for a few days, a lot of people don't really read the whole post, it's sad =( I don't know why I care so much about people leaving a comment. It's not that, It makes me very sad because people took the time to write something nice and they comment something very irrelevant to the post, isn't it upsetting?

Well anyways, you are brilliant. I hope you win the challenge!

TC,
Gilaine

Glad you liked it and thank you! And it is upsetting a bit to see people comment like that I was so disturbed about it I made a pretty long post about it and how money degrades our standards and makes us into zombies not having thoughts of their own. You can check it out if you want. Good luck to you too and hope you do well! :)

We haven't played for so long, but It was fun.
I still have a huge pile of games on steam that I can't play, because I just don't have time.

Same here.. used to have a little but of time and then I started blogging on Steemit haha..

Interesting experience of losing your password. I'm still wondering how you got your password back 😎

Well there is a way if you still have your old password trough the stolen account recovery. It takes time and you need approval but it worked.

Great that it worked for you!
