Swimming with the fishes...

Unless you are Aqua Man or maybe Ariel, The Little Mermaid, you live your life on dry land, breathing air. Sure, you might go into the water at some stage but generally you're land-based. Fishes, and other water-based creatures like turtles, whales, starfish, dolphins and the like...Well, they live in the water right? It's sort of their domain, unless we humans encroach upon it which happens all around the world in oceans and waterways and lakes everywhere. Humans are attracted to water sports.

The problem with that is sometimes the water can be dangerous to humans. Loads of them drown annually around the world, mainly due to their own stupidity or natural, and man made, disasters like ships sinking. Occasionally someone dies due to the input of a creature of the water. Enter the shark.

In the last 24 hours there has been 2 cases of quite serious shark attacks on people who were in waters off the Queensland coast here in Australia. I don't know if they died or how serious it the attacks were but they made national news and so the media certainly felt it was a great opportunity to sensationalise for ratings and subsequently the sale of more advertising space and revenue.

Anyway, on the last attack locals insisted it was a tiger shark that was responsible. How they know that is a mystery...But they're locals, so the news service obviously pitched them as experts. So logical. I haven't heard much else about it but assume there will be some sort of call to action to hunt down and kill this rogue tiger shark before it attacks someone else. That's what usually happens.

So, this post isn't really a story about sharks attacking people...In fact if a shark is hungry and there's a human nearby then have-at-it-shark...Dig in! It's more about the hubris humans display. You know, that mightier-than-thou attitude we have to, well just about everything. I mean how dare that shark get hungry and want to have a little something to eat...And on OUR PLANET too! How dare he.

So, really the only way to prevent humans (grossly over-populated on this planet mind you) from getting harmed by sharks is to kill them all. The sharks I mean. What other option do we have? I mean we certainly couldn't stay out of the water in safety could we? No, that would be a serious impediment to our fun and enjoyment of our plant. No, better we kill all the sharks so that we can swim in the ocean in safety. Whilst we are at it we should probably kill any other animal that has ever killed, or attacked a human. Snakes, spiders, hippopotamus's, crocodiles, jellyfish, bears...Hell, let's just kill them all. We can then enjoy the planet in complete safety. No human would ever die a violent death. Well, except at the hands of another human of course...We're good at that too.
