Choices and discussions over timeouts and punishments - effective parenting or a waste of time?

in #life7 years ago

Life is full of choices and those choices reflect our morals, values and character. Some people make the right choices and others make the wrong choices.
What makes humans so different? I think our upbringing has a lot to do with it, childhood influences, our parents, guardians and our role models growing up shaped our thinking and our values. I believe we can raise outstanding citizens by allowing them to learn right from wrong without necessarily punishing them.

As a parent I believe everything we teach our children today will have a big impact tomorrow. Teaching our children to make their own choices and allowing them to see the pros and cons before making the choice is wonderful training, it helps them reflect on the outcome they would want to see before it actually happens.

If a child makes the wrong choice and there are negative consequences, then as parents we should speak to them about the choice and how it has a negative impact and refer to a better choice that would have been made with its positive consequence. Once the kids see the difference they automatically learn to think and compare choices before acting.

Allowing kids to practice making choices at a young age while under our care, they get to learn under the cushion of our supervision and direction. By the time they are young adults they will be skilled in this area and will make the right decisions that we can all be proud of.... hence happy family moments

My prayer is that by the grace of God we continually make the right choices reflective of the person of Christ Jesus alive in us for His glory.

Children just need boundaries, once these are set your children will flourish!

@marcusxman absolutely once boundaries are established they do well, if they try to push the boundaries the parents should consistently positively reinforce them
