Why we own multiple firearms and their uses...

It is easy to tell if a person understands the use of firearms or not when they ask why you have so many guns. Many times they assume you are collecting them because you are prepping for some war. It is rare that anti-gun people actually acknowledge that these guns each have an individual purpose. There is no such thing as a one gun for all purposes.

This blog is to introduce you to the many firearms I own and WHY…

Each firearm I own serves a purpose. Some are for hunting large or small game. Some are for defending chickens, cats, dogs, & garden from predators with a nonlethal option when possible. Some of these firearms are also used for self defense and home protection.

It takes the police around 45 minutes to an hour to get to my homestead in the country. During that time if my wife and I had no way of protecting ourselves then the police would never be able to get here in time to do it for us. We could be raped, tortured, and even killed in that time. I should inform you also that in my state of Pennsylvania there are several laws protecting people’s right to defend themselves with the use of lethal force when appropriate. Also police have no law that requires them to protect you. They are obligated to protect you by their OATH but nothing more. Here are two websites that will inform you more so about that:

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/28/politics/justices-rule-police-do-not-have-a-constitutional-duty-to-protect.html

http://disinfo.com/2010/03/the-police-arent-legally-obligated-to-protect-you/

So with that said you can rely on police to defend you if they so choose to do so. But for me and my family we choose to defend ourselves and call the police for backup if need be. I am not anti-cop by any means. The state police in my county are very good people from those I have met with on occasion. I have had trespassers on our land and burglars and idiots around town requiring me to call the police and every cop that arrived were very nice and professional. The same goes for the sheriffs here. Although I have met some officers that were real jerks in other counties and states.

It is also our constitutionally protected right and I declare duty to bare arms in defense of our country from both foreign and domestic tyranny.

We live 100% off grid short of internet and phone. We are still sociable for now. We rely on growing food, raising chickens, and hunting for a portion of our food. We do still utilize the grocery stores too. This requires us to have firearms for hunting and protection from predators, human or wild animal.

With all that said here is a look at the firearms we own and the reasons for owning them:

Upvote, resteem, and followed. I'm in NWPA. Glad to meet another PA'ian!

excellent. followed you back. im in armstrong county.

Warren County here. The edge of the PA Wilds.

We're not far from each other it seems.

i resteemed your fruit picker blog and upvoted 100% all your blogs for last 7 days. i tend to do it to lots of people when i first meet them on here and like their stuff.

we could meet up sometime and do a steemian meet joint blog post if you want.

First, thanks a lot! Second... meetup - Absolutely. I've been looking for locals/regionals. I'm originally from Ohio (10 years ago now this summer) and while there I had a homesteaders weekend where a bunch of us who met on homesteadingtoday.com got together. I still have close friends from that. But yes, we'll have to arrange something. Send me an email at [email protected] and we'll figure out some way to communicate outside of steemit. Unless you belong to discord? We can PM on the homesteadersonline discord. I also have facebook, etc. Let me know. Hope you're enjoying the warm weird weather today.

i will send you an email tonight. you can also email me at fixedbydoc.com

im retired so have loads of time. though im currently working on buying a new silverado 4x4 today and tomorrow. my current one slammed into a guard rail on ice and just got totaled out by insurance today. no cost to me. may even profit off it a little. so have a newer model lined up for test drive tonight. if all goes well i will be driving again by friday.

All well accounted for I guess. Always seems odd for me but then we don't have a gun culture in the UK. The are completely illegal for most people, although if you want on you can get one!

Its always a question I ponder gun control. If everyone had a gun would it be safer, I mean look at Switzerland. Considering a lot of people have guns in the US there are not as many shootings as you would be lead to expect but the media. In comparison (the only I have) to knifes in the UK there are a lot of stabbings. But also even though guns are illegal there are shootings thankfully not mass shootings but all the same people are shot in the streets.

So I'm on the fence I think, its so difficult when the programming is all you know! 💯🐒

mass shooting didnt happen in america until the decline of the american family. meaning around the 80's or a little earlier families stopped doing things together. parents started relying on game consoles and tv to raise their kids. it became very hard to discipline your own children in the 90's without fear of CPS grabbing them (child protective services). and to top it off making things worse our brilliant gov created the "leave no child behind" program for education meaning you got passed to the next grade even if you failed the one you were in. then they recently in 2000 something created the "common core" program that destroyed the educational system. now the result is we have a ton of young adults and teen children that are uneducated and undirected and lack the necessary family upbringing that kept them sane and proper. we only have ourselves to blame for allowing it to happen and downward spiral. but one thing we must always remember guns dont kill people do. and today everyone seems to focus on the gun not the people. we take away the guns by law and we only serve to take guns out of law abiding citizens. criminals are criminals and that means they dont follow the laws and therefore will always have a gun if they so choose to. then there is big pharma over medicating everyone...

Well said! The education system globally has gone pete tong as we say here! Tits up. Brainwash rubbish.
I didn't know about the leave not child behind or common core. What can you say? We need to change the paradigm that 100th monkey is close! 💯🐒

:) thanks...

Nice collection! Looks like you're prepared for just about anything!

thanks each has a purpose.

Glad you putting Addie's gun on there .22s are great firearms

yeppers... they really can do a good job. i was shot with a 22lr and still have the bullet in my chest. it may not kill as fast but it will take you down.

Yep I've killed all sorts of game with them just gotta put it in the right spot.

Nice! We have a few guns and will probably will get more. We could really use the same .22 collection you have. Thanks again.

the savage 22lr is a great riffle for small game for sure. and the other 22lr's are great for the wife.

Very nice and suitable collection. Mine is similar with minor differences. .30-06 for the bigger caliber. .243 for game in general. Shoots flat and fast. I like the .17 HMR over the .22LR currently. Quicker and flatter but I must admit I want a .22LR back in the collection. I like the versatility of a 12 gauge over a 20. More reach on waterfowl if you get the chance to hunt them.

Carry wise, I've settled on .45ACP over 9mm. Nothing more than a starting preference. Lots of nice shooting 9mm's out there but my first experience was with garbage gun in that caliber so I just selected .45 as the the go to.

And then I bought reloading equipment for all the above calibers. That's an investment and choice of firearms.

I'm not a big fan of semi auto's in rifle calibers. I respect your choices for them but there is such a crazy variance in accuracy with many of them I've just not bought one yet.

i have spine and neck damage so i cant go with the higher calibers r gauges. i would like a larger 12 gauge but cant shoot it. same with the 9mm over the 45. my 308 and 22lr from savage are bolt action the rest are all semi auto. the bb gun is obviously lever action. i would like to get a lever action 223. if it exists.

sounds like you got some good ones too...

I also have a gun like that ,, but unfortunately it is now damaged due to lack of care.

Ok, I will start this by saying while I am definitely not pro gun, I can appreciate them as tools. As you say, each has a purpose.

I am from the UK so we have much stricter controls so we don't come into contact with them as much. Now I have moved to Spain and am planning to buy a place on the mountains and I have considered looking into a shotgun to scare off bears and wolves. My question is this. Do you REALLY need two semi auto assault rifles for protection?

I mean, for long distance you have two bolt actions that could happily wound a guy and make him think again. For close quarters you have pistols. For scaring the crap out of them you have a pump action. Are assault rifles really necessary?

I will admit I don't like the overall gun culture in the US and some people seem to have amassed enough weaponry for a small army. I do respect the fact that there ARE guns in the US and, if living remotely, it means you don't have the protection of a police officer 10 mins away (or whatever response times are like, I don't really know). I write this to understand more, not criticise.

  1. i do not own any assault rifles by definition: What is the true definition of an assault weapon?
By U.S. Army definition, a selective-fire rifle chambered for a cartridge of intermediate power. If applied to any semi-automatic firearm regardless of its cosmetic similarity to a true assault rifle, the term is incorrect.

  2. What does AR 15 stand for?
They are today's modern sporting rifle. The AR in “AR-15” rifle stands for ArmaLite rifle, after the company that developed it in the 1950s. “AR” does NOT stand for “assault rifle” or “automatic rifle.”

  3. you do understand that i only have ONE semi auto rifle for myself and my wife only has ONE semi auto for herself. i hope you understand that mine is SIGHTED IN and SETUP for me while my wife has hers SIGHTED IN and setup for HER. you cannot just grab a gun with adjustable sights and assume it will work the same for everyone.

  4. again i dont own any assault rifles. my AR15's are designed specifically for defense. my other rifles are for hunting. the right tool for the right job or dont bother. my semi auto rifles have a light and a laser sight for accuracy and night time shooting which is legal only on self defense weapons and makes them safer for use at night when an attack is most likely to occur. those items would make the hunting rifles illegal because if for hunting you are not allowed lights or laser sights.

  5. police in USA are not obligated to protect you by any law or our constitution. it takes 45 minutes for a cop to get to me and only if they respond right way. the last time it took 3 hours.

hopefully that clears up a few things for you...

Well, I think everyone understands that there are different weapons for different purposes. Previously, during the hunt, I used only one type of weapon, now my assortment has increased. Also, I thought it would be a good idea to buy binoculars. Not the most ordinary one, but some kind of innovative one, so that I'll be really comfortable using it.
