2016 hottest year ever... but maybe its not if we do not talk about it
2016 was the warmest year on record since the measurments started 137 years ago and its the second year in a row that we are beating these awfull records.
here are the bulletpoints of the report:
- greenhouse gasses were the highest on record
- global surface and sea surface temperature was the highest on record
- global sea level was highest on record
- arctic sea ice coverage at all time low
- tropical cyclones were above average
Now all this is clear to most of us... The earth is getting warmer and we all together must do something about this.
And it is easy to think that as an individual we do not have any impact on climate change but we do. For example if everyone just would eat one vegetarian meal per week instead of meat it would have a huge impact on the greenhouse gasses for instance. (I am not a vegetarian myself and love a good steak myself but I am implementing this and will be posting my weekly vegi recipe on steemit)
This is another article I wrote a while back that relates to this topic and if you visit their website they have pledges that can be made to make our own little contribution https://steemit.com/blockchain/@felander/earth-overshoot-day-blockchain-can-help-save-the-world
But the weird thing for me is that some people really want to deny this trend and global warming. No matter why it is happening, it is happening and that cannot be denied. So it pains me to read an article that the USDA (US Department of Agriculture) is instructing their employees to no longer use certain phrases so:
“climate change” becomes “weather extremes”
“climate change adaptation” becomes “resilience to weather extremes”
“reduce greenhouse gases” becomes “increase nutrient use efficiency”
SO apparantly the policy of parts of the US government is :
"If we do not talk about the problem it does not exist"

I actually have just written about this topic https://steemit.com/news/@newamsterdam/the-greenland-ice-sheet-gained-record-amounts-of-ice-this-summer. Some places in the world might get warmer, but other ones get colder. I live in the Netherlands and have never experienced a more cold summer than this year. Using the heating system in August is a good example of that. You refer to 137 years of measurements, but hat's nothing in comparison with the age of our world. The great frost of 1709 isn't studied by 'renowned scientist' or taken into their models. It's like making an analysis of the Dow Jones based on the last trading day, and take the last 132 years for granted. The Dow Jones analysis in this example will not make any sense on the long term.
ok, i read your article and i knew about the sun activity deminishing but if that is the case it should be getting colder (new small ice age if some are to be believed) but it seems to be getting hotter
i remember even reading a theory that the global warming caused by humanity is real but a good thing since it counteracts the cooling caused by the maunder minimum
my point to the story is that sticking your head in the sand like they seem to be doing is not really helpful to finding out what is going on either way
"it seems to be getting hotter" and i was promised by Al Gore that the Netherlands would be flooded. Still waiting, and we had made it easy by building our national airport 4 meters below sea level. But seriously, what's is the problem? Solar energy can be cheaper per kw/h then electricity from oil. Sooner rather than later electric cars will be cheaper too. Let this process take it course. But let "climate change" not be the reason to create a world government that can tax and control the world population in the name of an the apparent climate change.
