The earth of love grows in the heart of man;
It's only in his spirit, whose spirit has no heart,
Is there a tree capable of love,
That does not wish for heaven.
I was born a poor child of the South’s heart;
I was told 'tis to make a tree
That will give us a good harvest.
I think, after a time, I shall find
A tree not a poor child could have
For the love of God, and that's the tree I want
