Facebook? More like Facepalm!!!

in #life5 years ago (edited)

You couldn't have scripted it any better. Last night, the "social media platform of choice" that is Facebook announced that due to a technical glitch, users were unable to post anything to their profile page. That includes Instagram and Whatsapp, owned by the same vehicle company. A multi billion dollar enterprise brought to it's knees for one sole reason. the fact that it operates within a "decentralized" environment.

Now contrast this with Steemit that also happened to go down around the same time. Some of the uninitiated of our community were quick to take to twitter, spouted their protestations at the frustration of not being able to logon, when a select few replied and pointed them in the right direction. That being the wealth of "Dapps" we have at out disposal. Steempeak, Partiko and Busy spring to mind. It was a "happy accident" that the two unexpected circumstances should merge in this way. And, I believe, it offers up a glimpse into the future of how global operations will continue to function. The answer just couldn't be clearer!

As with almost everything, it's just a question of time. A new age is knocking at our door and the masses out there are completely oblivious to it. But that's a good thing, for now. I don't see the whole Dapp environment as mature enough to replicate a sellable option to people. This will take money, talent and innovation. Huge amounts of it too. But it will happen, be sure of that. Getting back to the social media aspect, it just so happened that all these centralized corporations got in first many years ago when the "centralized" model was the only choice. Things are changing fast and more only evolve more so going forward. Blockchain tech will do what the Internet did for global communications. It's the only thing that makes sense.

It came to my attention that even whilst I typed this up, Facebook are still have issues (and that includes Whatsapp and Instagram). Seems the whole "centralized" way of doing things can turn out to be more problematic than we once thought. :)

Upvoted for that cheesy title alone. Love it. The DDoS attacks on Steemit demonstrates why Steem is so powerful and why a blockchain based network is a good way to mitigate those attacks. It’s not about the website anymore. It’s the blockchain and as long as there are enough nodes throughout the world there will be a way to view it. GO STEEM!

Lol, that was a cheesy title come to think of it! You can clearly see how the old system is not what it once was. Now let's just wait for the rest of the world to follow. :)

Couldn’t agree more. Watching the centralized players freak out and the Steem community kinda shrug was fun to watch.

It is great to see how Steem has demonstrated the attractiveness of being decentralized and also no longer depending on Steemit sote for engagement!

Yep... We have so much to choose from. It's fast becoming an eco-system type blockchain.

Lol, nothing to worry ourselves about, pal. :)

Absolutely, although you mean that Facebook operates in a "centralised" environment, non?
