I was born and raised square in the middle of the Llano Estacado on the High Plains of Texas.
the nearest water (not a seasonal lake) is 400 miles away...in any direction.
I was a growed kid before I saw any water, in a lake, that wasn't brown.
That's hard to imagine. I was actually born on Long Island, just forty-five minutes from NYC and spent the first ten years there, but even there we had the bay around the corner and the ocean about twenty minutes away. I'm right in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region here, and less than an hour from the Great Lake Ontario.
I'm fascinated by the idea of Plains and Deserts though, and definitely plan to travel that way in the next few years :)

There are a lot of refugees from NYC around here.
My uncle was one of them, he moved to Houston in his twenties and lived there for over thirty years :)
we call houston NYC south.
Haha! He was a taxi driver, can't get much more NYC south than that!
