Don't Go To School?
Growing up, we were brought up to believe in the pattern of going to school, graduate and get a big dream job.

With the rate of unemployment in this country, one begin to wonder if this method is effective at all.
This post is to suggest other methods of creating employment and reducing the high rate of unemployment among youths.
~ Build Young Entrepreneurs
Two years ago, after secondary school, one of my brothers went to learn fashion designing. He is doing well now and has gained admission into the university. Now,he has customers he sews for and I believe he will get more customers in the university.
After university education, he doesn't need to start looking for jobs. He is now self-employed and now has to think of ways to expand and create jobs for others.
This got me thinking that there is a need to change the pattern of go to school, graduate and get a job. What if the jobs do not come?
Then, the youths are faced with the harsh realities of unemployment.
I will suggest that youths be encouraged to get a skill before gaining admission to the university. The university can serve as a place of both learning and business opportunities.
This will increase more youth entrepreneurs. There is need to install entrepreneurship skills in our youths. This country need more entrepreneurs who can create wealth and meet different needs.
There are various skills that youths can take interest in: fashion designing, baking and catering, tutorial centres, music schools, dry cleaning services, home cleaning services,
social media/digital marketing,web design,
farming and so on.

There is a young lady that I was talking to about using school as a medium to create market for herself. She was disappointed that she hasn't gained admission after two years of finishing her secondary school education.
I shared my ideas with her on how the skill she has learnt(she makes hair) can serve as a source of income while in school and even after she graduates.
She has now gained admission and am glad she can use that skill to fend for her small needs and get contacts even after school.
There is my suggestion for tackling unemployment. What do you think about it?
Your suggestions and comments on this topic will be deeply appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

I was taught the same thing by my Dad.. but my mom on the other hand never pressured me into college. I look back and wish I would have stuck to my gut and avoided the debt I collected for going to school.. seeing that I've changed routes. A positive I see from it is, I can share that with my kids and maybe prevent them from doing the same as I did.
Great article! Glad you're able to help others! :)
We can encourage kids in building up their entrepreneurship skills to avoid the same mistakes we made. I wished I had these ideas when I was younger.
It is now up to us to make the next generation better.
Thanks for reading my blog.

So very true. For me, my university years were mostly a waste of money. I made lots of friends and had lots of fun, but my degree has granted me very little opportunity.
I wished I had used my university years to make money.lol. An avenue with lots of people and friends.
Well, I will just encourage the younger ones to avoid making these mistakes.
Thanks for reading my blog.
No doubt! That's an excellent point. It's a great time to be an entrepreneur because you sort of have a captive market.
I believe that we are each so individual and unique and that school is not for everyone. Not that we don't deserve education, rather that we each deserve to be able to learn in the manner that suits us and will benefit us most! I wish there more hands on schools that taught free-thinking and entrepreneurial skills. I also think trades and basic skills like baking and woodwork need to make a comeback. Our society is screaming for it!
Thanks for your contribution. I try to encourage kids after their secondary education to get a skill before going to the university.
Entrepreneurship madam. Thats the solution. Am in school right now and its hard to just graduate with spillover and cuanging of a persons course anyhow. Teaching and building young entrepreneurs is the way. WONDERFUL insight to the craving matter madam.
Thanks for your contribution. The society needs more entrepreneurs and problem solvers.
All the best in your endeavours. Thanks for stopping by.
THANK you ma'am.
It's an awesome post :) I agree, we need to focus on skills. Don't really need to go to university to get a job nowadays. As long as you have your skills and great references who can vouch for your skill, you should be on your way to being your own boss.
Thanks for your wonderful contribution. We need more entrepreneurs in our society to create more opportunities and reduce the rate of unemployment.

I fully agree with you. Seeking employment means that somebody else has to create a job for you.
Its better to create a job for yourself, then you can never be fired or let go.
I also believe in creating different income streams. No need to put all our income needs in one basket.
I still think its important to get a degree, but community colleges, state schools, and staying living with your parents while you do those things makes more sense than trying to have a "College Experience"

Thanks for your wonderful contribution Ma'am. We need more entrepreneurs, I hope we start encouraging ourselves and others to build up their entrepreneurship abilities.

Yes totally agree with you there! Skills for life are way more important than a university degree that doesn’t get you a job. For me I gained my job not because of studying in university but learning the skill on my job - im a photographer who never studied it as a course
