101 Ways to happiness - #53 Leaving prejudice

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Oh, yes, we are all sooner or later victims of prejudice.

Simply said: prejudice means that people do not know the person or the causes of its actions, but they already conclude something. Or they stick to prejudices about religious, racial or sexual divisions (and more) because they keep a safe distance to those individuals or groups who are threatened by their narrow vision.

They say we nurture prejudices so that we do not need to think further with our head. We simply accept some values, positions, and norms from the environment and do not think about it in depth. They are somewhere around us, and quickly become part of us in creating our environment.

Unfortunately, the prejudice always defines the hostile attitude towards the object of attack. It is rigid and insensitive to possible new data, which could, for example, change our view.

I'm thinking about myself and I'm trying to be objective, where do prejudices lie to me and to whom? I mean, sometimes I make fun of myself when I say that I don't understand something, because I'm obviously 'blonde' (but, in fact, I'm currently redheaded), so if I say it like a joke, I'm somewhere in myself obviously carry the prejudice that the bright-haired people may be less intelligent. Uh, I know, now I'm risking the anger from beautiful, long-haired ladies. But, no offense!

I want to say that prejudices define ourselves and greatly limit us in the ability to think broadly.

Fear of difference and everything that represents the deviation from generally acceptable behavior and thinking is obvious. It would be nice to have more individuals who would dare to think beyond the frames of habits and learned patterns and start using their own brains and experiences to perceive the reality and environment in which they live.

I'm trying to imagine what a world would be without prejudice, labels, and evaluation of each other's behavior? Maybe it would be too boring? Would the world be finally calm and just? Through prejudices, we feed on the pain of others. We know of violent cases of community response to different. Are you among them?

When we begin to think a little more with our head and don't take environmental pressures, we will eventually find out how much energy and time we are taking to be prejudiced. So we have to get rid of them. We really don't need them.

This is a very interesting post and subject, equality and prejudice is such a massive subject and it can be seen from so many different perspectives, our perceptions of what these words mean are almost changing on a daily basis because of the different contexts and situations that we find ourselves in, also it is somewhat fluid as a perception and changes as our lives change and our circumstances become different.

Can you imagine a world without prejudice? Or do you believe it is impossible in our lifetime?

After reading your post I would be really interested to see what you think of something very similar I wrote recently in respects to equality and mental health, would appreciate it if you take a look :-)

I can't really imagine the world without prejudice, because like you said in your post, the kids are raised with this kind of attitude, which they carry on with. But I have a thinking, that if I try to do my best I know my conscience is clear. And if anyone, who read my post try to be better, then my mission is successful.

Well this is true, whilst we may not be able to influence all of society as we are but one person, we can as one person act in a certain way that influences others, that has a snowball effect that could in turn alter society :-)

I really enjoyed your post.
I loved what you said "Through prejudices, we feed on the pain of others". It is so sad that we humans do that to others just to make ourselves feel better. It is so true and really sick.

I have been working on this for a while now and I have seen huge changes in my life. In this society we love to look for everything that is negative instead of looking for all that is good and loving to our hearts.
I try to look for the beauty in everything and everyone because really, who are we to judge? We don't know who these people are or what they are going through or where they come from, we don't even know ourselves or how we would act or be if we were in that certain position.

Like you said, what a waste of energy and time.

This is a really good point that you have highlighted, people are always very quick to judge others and they think they know why people act in a certain way, but as you say, we never really know, it is often hard enough to know our own battles, never mind other peoples, often the inside of a battle looks very different to what it does on the outside, I guess we must all remember that we are all battling just to get by, and ideally help each other :-)

I don't allow anyone to be responsible for my happiness because if I do,I can never be happy all the rest of my life hence, am responsible for my happiness.

Nice and thoughtful post Tnx for sharing

That's the right way of thinking. I'm happy, that you came around.

in this our life and death, the choice is not between leaving a wholly rational will and leaving an imperfectly rational one, but between leaving an imperfectly rational will and dying intestate! nice shot friend @emmamia

You made me think with your comment, but I must say, that I agree with you. Thank you.

Thank you!

awsome post, really like reading it, thanks

Thank you.

And wonderful and scary! Did the trees break from the ice?

Thank you. Fortunately, almost all trees survived around our house, but generally, in our region, almost anyone had damage because of all the heavy ice.
