In today's difficult times, the emphasis is on how to make ends meet. Many families struggle to earn Just enough money to be able to buy the things they require and take care of the ever increasing needs of the child. This leads to the rat race situation experienced in many families today especially in the cities and urban areas.

Parents are now compelled to work hard of they are to be able to fend for themselves and their families. After a, it is said, if anyone will not work, neither should he eat. However, rushing in and out in a bid to meet the needs of the family is not good enough. It portends danger for the future of the children who are the leaders of tomorrow.

The fun or excitement associated with the parent-child's close relationship is gradually being lost, as house-helps and nannies have become glorified mothers in many homes. This is because the hustling and bustling busy nature of our environment may not allow the parents to personally do certain things in the home, particularly on week days.

Much as the point for working class parents is highly appreciated, such parents are humbly advised to set aside some time to address issues in the home front. They should know and keep abreast of whatever is happening to the child and whatever transpires in the home. This is the only way they can effectively perform their oversight functions.

Parental deprivation should not be allowed in the family institution. The truth is that if parents don't have time for a child, the latter will find comfort or solace somewhere else. This is because there is no vacuum in nature. The need for parents to be sensitive to their role cannot be over_emphasized.
