Not too young to rule: Why the youths must decide the future of their country

I live in a country of about one hundred and eighty six million as of 2016, a country where a vast percentage of the legal voting aged adults (myself inclusive) prefer not to vote, yet we blame bad governance.
We are E-warriors but cowards in reality. We cower at the mere sight if trouble and decide to leave our faith to chance in hope of a lesser of the two evils will emerge, but is there really a lesser of the two evils?

This is not a political article, it is the the truth and a wake up call!

Being a future leader

Remember how Nelson Mandela fought to make South Africa great? Remember the actions of Martin Luther King Jnr who fought for what he believed in till it was achieved? When you think Africa, you think South Africa, this would not have been possible if not for the effort of Nelson.
The mentality of leadership being attached to age is a wrong one, an older person does not make you wiser or better, sometimes the corrupt ones might be the older ones. There is an African proverb which states that...

In other to move, the Horse at the front looks at the back looks to the one at the front for direction

Sadly in this part of the world, those at the front are not the kind of people you would want to emulate, because the so called leaders deserve to be schooled in the art of true leadership. But wait a minute, is it totally the fault of the leaders?
How do we explain a situation when two cups of rice and salt is all it takes to buy your votes? How do you explain a scenario when those who are supposed to train for leadership are given guns to terrorize others from voting a candidate of their choice? A scenario where the young butchers the young for the old.
What happens when you either vote their choice or don't vote at all, that is the situation we have found ourselves. You think you know war, try the general elections.
The most embarrassing thing is when you hear the electoral body announcing that millions of people didn't vote yet nobody asks why.
Instead of credibility, elections tow an ethno religious line, you are qualified if you are my kin's man and you are a gaijin if you are not from my tribe nor share my religious beliefs.
So many zealots can die for the man, but not his portfolio. We have been promised constant power supply, but yet, importation of generating sets is at an all time high.
How can we thread the path of good water supply when the best a poor man can get is water in a sachet. How can the educational system be top notch when even the minister for education's children did not school in the country, how can we expect three square meals when the minister for Agriculture knows nothing about his office.

The future leaders from this part of the world are more concerned about the next lady they will have intercourse with, they are more concerned with the next tattoo they will draw to resemble their celebrity idol, they are more concerned with the substance they will abuse at a party.
We wonder why we are in darkness when the Electrical engineers have no practical knowledge of what their field entails, we are a third world nation because we term unexplained science as voodoo even in this century.
We live in the part of the world where blaming is cheaper than taking actual actions, where it has to be someone else's fault in the village for our mishaps.
Politicians can fool us with the notion of doing heaven and earth once elected, but we the future leaders never stop to ask why the so called leaders need to be elected to make a difference. Anyone can make a difference anywhere or in any position. What you cannot do as an ordinary politician, you cannot do as a president.
We rely on false promises and bribe, we are swayed by threats and thugs, can they kill us all, can they threaten us all, but the problem as always with we the future leaders is not who will bell the cat, rather, it is more of sustainability of the vision. Everyone is worried that they will get laughed at if they make a move.
The older ones have not just resigned themselves to fate, they encourage us to do the same. They crippled our ability to learn and challenge them through strikes, they controlled our ability to humble them by always travelling abroad and the worse part is the law makers whom are supposed to be held accountable have themselves account-able, meaning their accounts are a reflection of their noble intentions.
We live in a world where the vast representation of Africa is a jungle with wild life, a place known as the dark continent, a place, a place where refugees and internally displaced people thrive, but it is not their fault, we the future leaders have sold our rights for two cups of rice and salt and until we can change that, then there is no hope.
Money allocated for constituency is being spent are we are given money for recharge card to subscribe to the data plans of foreign telecommunication firms and watch them flaunt wealth instead of bills.
We wait for the next corrupt politician we can vote who tells us one day we will be ready, but look at the corridors of power and we'll see the same faces, yet we wonder why things are never different.

I am not too young to rule and make a difference, are you?

@ehiboss It's time the youths took their future to their own hands. :) More young people should be placed in positions of power; old people with no future are more prone to declaring catastrophic wars. That's my humble opinion!

The problem is will the old relinquish power? Power is intoxicating

Of course it is! We will have a hard time turning things round.

That's the spirit man! Not too young to rule.

Errm, you know there are so many youths willing to make a change but are handicapped by the annoying leaders of today.

Should we be seeking to leave the country while we know we are the leaders of tomorrow? When is tomorrow sef?

The politicians have killed practically everything. What most youths have now is desperation. That electrical engineer would have been productive if he had the right tools but he crammed all the principles and procedures.

How on earth is he supposed to be able to make research when he gets frustrated with the annoying internet all service providers give him?

In the end, complain is not a way forward for us. We need to prove that we can do it.

Great post man. Thanks for activating some determination tonight.

Thanks for this epic comment, it really gave me a boost

We need many more youths to think this way
Nice one boss

@ehiboss. It's been the talk for quite some time now. Our leaders are so gullible, selfish and nepotic (I'm not abusing them but only stating the facts) that they will never ever give the youths the chance. They don't want to think that they came into power at a tender age, some were below 30 years of age when they assume Leadership of this country. Painfully till today, they are still holding on.
The big question "can the youths come together and wrestle power from them"?
My answer is categoral yes. Let the youths make up their minds and come out to liberate themselves. Nobody gives you power, you just have to seize it.

It's a curse saying youth are the leaders of tomorrow because tomorrow never comes, I've been hearing that since I started my elementary school, please when is the tomorrow coming. We are already at the tomorrow, this is the tomorrow youth are the leaders right now. @ehiboss nice post. Thumbs up. I am @popson

@popson good question...well I'd say the tomorrow ain't coming if we the youth still sell our votes for petty cash & sit at home hoping to boycott the election while things are getting out of hand we the youth have to get involved. ✌

@ehiboss I think we the youth should get more involved in politics, in our own little ways that's the only way I think we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

These grand pa's and grand ma's in power keep promising we the youth brighter future how can these grand pa's and grand ma's promise a brighter future while they don't have any future left of them, the least they have done for the youth is to make the youth leave the country for overseas in search of greener pasture.
Meanwhile many of them end up in prostitution, drug pedaling and even get involved in some fraudulent acts all in search of greener pasture.
I was watching the news like two weeks ago when one "minister grandpa" opened his mouths which I wondered will he still use that mouth to eat again? and proclaimed that the youth are the leader of tomorrow, the tomorrow that never die.
Am also using this mean to urge we the youth to come out don't sit at home to boycott election any more things are getting out of hand. Don't sell your votes for petty cash...let's get involved ✌

You bring up so many good points... This is definitely something youths need to know. Resteemed!

Hello @ehiboss
You've spoken the truth. But youths you are calling to lead are not even better than the corrupt leaders we have. An example is the student bodies in my university. If you see the cases of embezzlement, you'll marvel at what these 20 year olds are doing. So in order not to even trouble ourselves (those of us that do not vote), we just leave the matter to God. When the right man comes, we hope we'll be ready to vote him/her but for now I don't trust anyone.

@learnandteach01

The old men in power won't leave. So, what do we do? A revolution? Till we decide to change the status quo, we are up for the same issue repeating itself.

very well said, the power to lead has ever been in the youth, we better start ruling now or never.
