When we walk through new places, we come across unexpected things, some we like and some we don't. In this type of tour, the important thing is to continue. When you start meditating, many people have interesting experiences. They are not good or bad experiences, they are only part of our personal processes. If we don't understand them, we can become dependent on them, because we consider them marvelous, or they can worry us, because they are not familiar. It is always relieving to know what can happen, and if something has to be done about it, what it consists of.

It is important that the readers have some of these experiences, as they usually happen to people who follow intense meditation programs, with several hours of daily practice. But anyway, it's good to know what it's all about in case you ever experience it, even if only slightly.

When you start meditating, the first few days people tend to feel better, or even euphoric. Among the many explanations for this, what I would underline is that the mind and body feel so relieved because we finally do something so great for ourselves that they become euphoric. After a while we become accustomed to that level of relaxation and balance, and then it no longer seems especially wonderful and we need to achieve a deeper relaxation and concentration in order to experience sensation with the same intensity.

It is important to remember that we do not meditate to have good sensations. Not even the zenith of good sensations, that is to say the mystical experience, is an end in itself, but only something that drives us towards the next stage of the journey. If we meditate only to achieve happiness, we run the risk of being terribly disappointed most of the time.

We must not forget that meditation also favors the relaxation of the body and mind, increased mental concentration and control, reduces stress, balances our subtle energies, induces emotional and mental clarity, and increases the ability for self-healing, among many other beneficial effects, All these things are achieved with or without euphoric feeling. That feeling is nothing more than a gift that is sometimes made to confirm that we do a good thing for ourselves.
