Steemit: I name thee sleep-stealer! (But I still ❤️ you!)
Okay. So I love steemit but something has to change. Steemit is stealing my sleep and my life is suffering for it.
Like many on steemit I have found a community I love, and a desire to write quality posts which are always different and engaging. A lot of the time this takes a little soul-searching on my part. Sometimes, not so much.
Today, it's the later.
I don't need to think about this because it's something I have been long contemplating: How do I find a permanent solution to the extra time I want (need?) to spend everyday on steemit? My days pre-steemit were busy enough, balancing:
- A full time job
- A family and the needs of an 8 year old - not to mention my needs to be part of her life while she still loves engaging on that level
- General household duties: washing clothes, cooking, cleaning - all the stuff
- My ongoing creative projects:
- Music - playing guitar, writing music
- Game-design - creating (with my daughter) a really fun boardgame
- Writing - I am currently writing two novels and a short story (the short story is the backstory for the above-mentioned boardgame)
- Creative projects with my daughter:
- Recording new tracks on an ongoing Christmas carol project
- Recording other songs written for (or co-written with) my daughter
- Collaborating on a series of books staring my daughter and some of her favourite toys (written as gifts for my wife)
- Watching TV (anyone else loving the new netflix startrek?)
And that's just the main things I like to spend my time on.
As an aside, I cannot for the life of me understand the phenomenon of being bored on retirement.
But now, as a contributing member of the steemit community I am spending large amounts of extra time on steemit not just writing my daily post, but trying to read the latest contributions of my favourite steemers and other posts that catch my eye, and making and responding to comments (not to mention the time needed to boost posts etc and catching up with discord buddies).
The reason I need to change this is because I am noticing that I am loosing my creative edge (which I rely on in my day job). I am also noting an unwanted, and unwarranted, level of general grumpiness. Who needs that?
I think the only solution is to ensure enough sleep. So I am enforcing a curfew on myself: Sunday-Thursday bed by 10:00pm. I need to ensure steemit doesn't suck my nights away.
Never thought I'd have to say that as an adult, but there you go.
Is this a sign of an addiction? Dunno. I'll let you know in a week, after seeing how successful my new enforced sleep regime is. Hopefully I will report back then as a sparkier, happier and better adjusted Wom 🙃

That is so funny because you just described my situation with Steemit. It is an addiction at least in my case and I have no life, thanks to Steemit, but the reason I keep staying on it all day long is that I enjoy it and there is just so much fun and interesting posts to read and of course making your own posts.I am a super busy lady that never sits down, but since I started Steemit, it all changed and I'm always on this laptop.
Thanks for sharing @drwom, at least I know I'm not the only crazy Steemain He, He.

I think you just described everyone on here Wom. 😁
^^^^ yes this!
Thanks mate
Hahaha probably, yeah!
I had to do the exact same thing, @dwom! Moderation in all things, I guess. Sleep tight!
Cool - is it working for you?
Yes, it really is. I decided to simply put a fence around the amount of time I spend here, and don't worry too much about how that time appears on the clock. I give it an hour per day. Thanks for asking!
I doth my cap in total, utter, respect !
My time is stretched also - I _have_work a minimum of 30 minutes a day to provide. I am committed fully to this time, and there is no option.
The rest is pretty much my own, to do as I want .
..And I run out of time !
How you balance your life is totally beyond my comprehension - A hero mate, a hero!
(I'll let you know how my game is coming along, btw, when there is something tangible to show you! -)
Cool - that'd be great
As for managing my time..mmm more work to do there!
Cheers!

It is a massive timesink. The only time I look at night is if people (that actually engage, we don't like dump and runners XP) drop posts in the chat. Just going through my favourite people and feed take up a fair chunk of the morning, so tags (I prioritise the TeamAus tag if I even get to the tags) and other people are lucky to get a look in XD
I need more sleep as well, but at least steem isn't causing the lack. Should probably also actually enforce a curfew (I do kind of have one but i tend to ignore it!)
