Motive to Post

Why submit a post to the community? I know this is a BAD 'why' question, but it is the best way to reach the heart of an issue here in Steemit. This is a question of motive. The answer is dynamic: it changes in time.

At first, there are motives of learning and maybe dreams of fame and fortune. For those whose interests center on on the potential fortune, they probably will quickly lose interest and fade away.

As these early motives are accomplished or not, personal dedication and commitment begin to step forward. Everyone seemingly must endure the daily grind of continual repetitive creative production. The good news is that this process is habit forming. Soon the motive to produce another post is based partly on commitment but it is built on habit. Production becomes routine like brushing your teeth.

The next layer of motivation is more personal. Different people find subsets of production they enjoy. Authors write. Painters paint. Wizards shed magical lights that pop, crackle and snap. The individual talents of each brings value to the community.

What remains constant during these changes is the fun of the game. Every post has the chance to acquire another follower, build reputation, and gain rewards. There is a sense of winning the game when you produce a hit.

At the core of everyone is a fundamental sense of purpose. The best try to bring value to the community. This may be in quality or quantity. What matters is the underlying personal motive. If you read someone long enough, their motives become clear.
