One of the Many: Maximum Work, Minimum Return

I was trying to escape but I was in chains. I would have preferred a lover to do that. I was just one of the many, and all that was lacking was a code on my back and a $5 price tag.

Don't take it literally, I was not really chained to my desk, within these dry walls are what we call the modern-day slavery. It is not only happening in one place, and not only with this type of job. It is happening in those places I had traveled to and all over the world, with the people that should be known as the majority. The reality is that there's more supply of workforce than the demand these days.

I was kind of reminded of this as I was looking for a graphic designer for my project here, and I was not even surprised anymore of how I received a lot of applications, those who were claiming who will do the job. There were those who were offering their services at a very cheap price and those who were sticking to their real value. I tried one and was disappointed by the result, and was also quite surprised at how the person was just willing not to be paid in exchange for the poor quality of work, despite some hours put in. I was looking back at the past and was awakened again to the reality of things. Am I still one of the many? Like one of those who works more and gets less in return. Take a look...isn't it obvious?

The story of our lives, don't even contradict something you don't know very well. Something you have probably just learned through the internet, books, news and the tv. Take it from the expert who has actually lived this world. Let's delve further into the factors that brought this social issue.

Culture

How many times will I emphasize the power of culture to shape people's thinking and behavior? Many of those school textbooks brought the culture of victimhood that has been instilled into the minds of people all this time. Books that contained the events of the history that has more emphasis on the word 'colonized'. This only made people think that they are better, and whatever that has not been made within this land is of low quality. The colonization part is still happening now but through economic means. I am not saying that people resort to a poor quality of work, it is just that there are many people who are willing to work than to produce, thinking that they might not even be good enough. There's the lack of persistence and perseverance brought by the culture as well. Consider the climate and the availability of most things for consumption that there's no need for preparation and anticipation of seasons.

Religion

The cultural values have more emphasis on religion. This religion that meddled with government's decisions. What this religion has produced is population growth. And thanks to more people, the church can afford expensive cars these days. Now, there are even more minimum wage workers who are actually the majority of the population, and most are becoming the victims of inequality and political injustice. How could you make all these people get out of religion that even education could not reach their minds. Only the very few are able to get out of this conditioning but are subject to the majority's criticism and prosecution. For most people, to conform is better and to be outside is evil.

Government

The good old government that controls everything, hated by many. Their policies that favor the few and maintain inequality. The problem is that there are places here ruled by corrupted individuals and are even being protected. This has been an ongoing saga, as long as human emotions control, there will always be poverty, greed, and war.

The government that does not believe that the country is rich enough with natural resources to survive on its own, a puppet of the powerful nations. That instead of encouraging people to stay and produce, they encourage more people to remain in bondage. Now, what kind of government is this? I'm sick of it and don't blame me.

Education

The lack of education is the root cause of being enslaved to religion and culture, even leading to the population growth of the uneducated. I am not even talking about finishing school and getting a degree, it is actually too easy for people to acquire that these days. I am talking about 'thinking', like thinking for yourself. Not asking the government, the church, the parents, the school to do that for you. It is also not that there are no people who are not qualified to do the job, in fact, there are too many skilled workers, that even a highly-skilled job such as programmer would not even make it above the minimum wage. That the last resort for these people is to reach the land of the free.

Instead of building a society filled with producers that would influence the majority to build their own dreams, the system ruled by the few is justified and maintained. It's not a demand to be equal actually, as there are really some who will have more because they are excellent at what they do, not because they have this dumb luck of inherited wealth, acquiring a 2nd nationality or being born in a country with a better economy. This current economy that perpetuates the system that those with more will have more and those with less will even have less. It is probably more of a demand to be fair, to reward those who really do good and to distribute that tiny bit of wealth to feed the hungry.

Oh yes, it can be tiring to work more and have a minimum return, especially if you have a lifetime of stories about it. It has to end and I demand change. These are fast-changing times I believe, there are many of us out there who are looking for ways to have a better world. We believe that change for the better is still not a thing of the past.

Glad to read that you're fed up with being milked like a cash cow by a system intended to lock you into place by trickling just enough to keep you there while extracting every bit of value you produce that you are unable to keep for yourself.

"...The government that does not believe that the country is rich enough with natural resources to survive on its own..."

The government doesn't believe anything. It's not a person. It's an agreement that some people made long ago, and a tool of people that use it in the way under discussion. It is those 'public servants' that are either coerced, or got into the job, in order to serve the oligarchy that create the derangable chokepoints the oligarchs use to extract our value.

Government was designed at the outset to do exactly this, and has cumulatively become better at it, and better at keeping us uninformed and gormless. Rhetoric is but bait, and the reality is hidden behind lies and propaganda, making it nearly impossible to ascertain this truth.

"The lack of education is the root cause of being enslaved..."

The essential truth of how the system is maintained! The best way to poorly educate someone is to teach them propaganda, to teach them to believe the lie that the system is designed to benefit them. Just failing to indoctrinate children is less successful at creating cash cows, as people then aren't taught stuff they later have to unlearn to reach the truth.

A good example of this, which should become obvious to a world traveler in hindsight, is geography. In the first year of forced indoctrination in the USA, first grade, and the tender age of 6 years, I was taught in geography class that there are 7 continents. N. America, S. America, Europe, Africa, Australia, Asia, and Antarctica.

I bet you, and all of your readers were taught the same thing.

It's a lie. Europe and Asia are one continent. Why would they lie to us about simple geography?

Best I can figger is that by teaching American children that Europe is a separate continent from Asia, subsequent history and social studies can be used to give them a view of themselves that they are from a separate culture, and create an easy way to demonize Asian nations via the media later.

This kind of education is far worse than no education at all!

Thanks!

Government calibrate themselves (and religions), to appeal to the masses.

It's an IQ bell jar distribution, thing.

And they are good at it.

If you can convince the majority, that their slavery is for their own good, its a hard paradigm to smash to pieces.

You hit the bit about Colonization right on the head. Great post.

Agree - and the worst part is that the majority of the population doesn't even realise that we're being economically colonised every moment of everyday.

BUT we have an unprecendented opportunity to now change that right now, won't be long until the world wakes up :)

Great perspective! Definitely different from someone who only knows one place.
