Focusing In like a Laser

in #life6 years ago

Focusing in on the things that matter is a cornerstone habit when it comes to consistent success in whatever you're trying to achieve.

Multi-tasking seems to have become a desired trait amongst our peers.

Why is it so coveted?

Why do people want to be good at multi-tasking?

What I have learned in trying to be both efficient and productive is that multi-tasking is counter to both goals.

If you are mult-tasking, then you are getting a surface-level productivity in comparison to lasering in on one or two important tasks and knocking them out like dominos.

Tim Ferriss has a saying that he commonly throws out:

Identify the lead domino task - the task that will cause a bunch of other dominos to fall. Something that is important in your life and makes it easier to complete the resulting dominos that lie ahead of it.

The problem with doing too many tasks at the same time is relatively obvious:

If you do 10 things at 10% speed versus doing 1 lead domino task at 100% speed, you'll see the difference immediately.

You'll knock down the lead domino then move on to the others and focus in on each like a laser.

Each domino will give way to making the next even easier to knock down.

It's a simple concept, but hard to grasp unless you put it into practice!
