Searching for the lost city in Colombia: Day 3
Hi I'm Danny! I'm travelling around the world! Follow me here.
In part two we started our trek up the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range in search of the hidden city. The story continues right now with us travelling through the absolute wilderness of Colombia.
We came to a village and got to meet the inhabitants. These villagers are extremely poor - they had no shoes and were dressed in rags.
Nowadays these people are a little more used to tourists because their village is on route to the lost city, however they are still a little standoffish. Like many Native people of South America the Tairona don't really trust white men or tourists. You have to remember their ancestors were absolutely massacred and colonised.
It felt a little bit awkward being there and as if we were perhaps not truly welcome - which is understandable.
The Tairona people were forced up into this region by the Spanish. In order to escape the Spanish massacres they fled the lower lands and made their ways into the hills. The jungle became a place to hide - they've been there ever since.
By the looks of it, you are in Kogi territory, on the outskirts of their main villages... How wrong am I? They surely don't welcome outsiders unless invited. Great photos! thanks for sharing, I love this country and its people.
All for one and one for all! Namaste :)
Am jealous.
