So whats your Survival Gear checklist ? This is my Emergency BoB Bug Out Bag ; but it is actually more a BiB . . .
So imagine something happens that is slightly more dramatic than your significant other kicking you out toward the dog house.
Some disruption means you cannot stay in your home, maybe a sewerage pipe explodes; never nice... Maybe the loss of your regular water supply due to chemical cross contamination. EarthQuakes, Tornados, Floods, Fires or for little old me; Hurricanes are my disaster of choice.
With a hurricane you hunker down and take your chances so my BoB ( bug out bag ) I myself call my BiB or (Bug in Bag) I know ; highly original... I expect to lose power for a minimum of 7 days, food is heavy on canned foods and canned proteins, fresh food will spoil so you must eat it immediately. Next is frozen food, never a good combination regarding loss of power for freezer and microwave stovetops : )
The ABSOLUTE essentials, water purification, three ways to make drinkable water ! ! ! three ways to make fire ! two stoves water bottle metal cup, sanitation items and hygiene comfort aids, respiratory mask, gloves, hearing protection and safety glasses, add in a knife ! and you have all the necessities of life (remember shelter) I carry shemagh and mylar safety blanket. this essential gear can easily be carried at under five pounds; more gear is not always better...
Yes it all goes into the backpack ! ! ! anything and everything you need is here, the extras not immediately visible are gloves, water + Water + WATER ! ! ! that blue bottle is a filter to MAKE 500 GALLONS of water ! ! ! eye protection, insect nets, river water shoes, bug spray, a camp stove, a machete (defense or digging) shovel, toilet paper...
The white block is nine meals of food, fire, shovel, mat, maps, contact numbers, meal preparations, sanitizing disinfecting food tools, cash, silver metal, instruction books on urban and bush survival, emergency contact numbers written down. Think WATER, SHELTER, PROTECTION, consider a first aid course and a survival course or at least sign up to a preppers blog website, plan for the worst and hope for the best ! ! !
Chainsaw ! ! ! survival knife, this is the greatest knife ever made the KaBar BK2 [this knife is a legend in its own time] This other knife is not a toy but rather the best back up knife and costs under $20 (MORA Sweden) ! ! ! You cannot do almost nothing without a tool and the greatest emergency tool is a knife always. Without a knife your situation just went from bad to desperate; simply you must have a knife; with a quality knife you can do anything you might need to do, including making other tools ! ! ! ( Not sure if you got that message; ALWAYS have access to a quality knife )
[ separate post about these knives]
Everything is packed into separate zones in the backpack so you can find it immediately in the dark, you need to practice your five main knots by practicing in a dark shower room at 3AM under freezing cold running water. You must be able to solidly tie five different knots in the dark even if injured, by the way a cold shower is not nice; you are preparing to survive...
The greatest know item is Duct Tape ! ! ! you should have ducttape and paracord, in case you did not see it, the tarp, waterproof electronic USB thumb drives of identification and insurances, 75 feet of tape webbing rated to 5 tonnes breaking strain (=rope). Shelter, first aid, everything you could need for anything is in this bag, by packaging it into zones you can easily check expiry dates and also if you do decide you need to actually move distances by foot you can easily decide which sections to leave behind to reduce weight.
All this stuff goes into this backpack, remember whatever you carry is going to get heavy so you need to be fit and healthy ! ! ! HALF your weight will simply be food and supplies and WATER is your other half, you must Must MUST hydrate in any sort of unexpected event; without clean water and lots of reliable drinking water you are dead ! ! !
Every action or inaction must be about 1) Water, 2) Protections [Sun, cold, insects], 3 Safety ! ! ! nothing else matters, food does not matter, nor comfort, make sure the kids have diapers and everyone has their first aid knowledge and days of medications ! ! ! What is your plan for the pets and the young or elderly etc. plan now and your decisions will be better and less stressful. Remember you have 10 million neighbors so your government is not going to be able to help you and remember if the SHTF really bad then 1 millions of those neighbors are going to try and steal your stuff ! ! !
How will you notify and meet up with friends and family if separated ? what is your household fire evacuation plan ?
This is my everyday Grab Bag, my EDC and GoTo Pack ; this is never more than 25 yards from my body, ever . . .

Who are you networking with ; )
Every single item was carefully chosen for quality versus price, this BoB cost a lot of dollars . . . You cannot buy a pack of chewing gum today for less than a dollar ! ! !
Want to make your own BoB ? Firstly NEVER buy the prearranged Bug Out Bags they are overpriced rubbish ! ! ! Have fun and learn your hobby as you build your own. I myself built mine in two months. I simply applied for a LIQUID COOLED Credit Card and bought the best stuff money can buy ! ! ! then paid it off almost immediately . . .
You do not need to go into debt, simply decide to buy four small items each month. Use your free time to find the best do anything types of gear, understand you might have to CARRY this stuff so LESS IS GOOD ! ! !
Remember to Plan for the WORST and Hope of THE BEST . . .
My other post links above show some amazing SURVIVAL learning books...
Understand WATER = Life ! ! ! and learn Emergency FIRST AID . . .
" waterproof electronic USB thumb drives of identification and insurances"
niiice. I need to add that to my own.
I do have a solar recharging panel for my tablet, which is chock full of medical and reference pdfs, but I never thought about adding in my own important documents.
Thank you plus I always were DOGTAGS, these include cell phone numbers and email addresses imprinted on the metal. plus I tape photo government identifications and a 20 or 50 or US$100 note to the tags. That way if my credit cards ever fail like during a dinner out I can always pay in cash at the fuel station instead of getting a police interview . . .
