How Ego Can Ruin A Relationship? (Featuring @sumee1313 as Author)

It is a well-known fact that love never dies a natural death. It dies because of ego and ignorance. What is ego? Ego is pride about oneself. Ego is high levels of self-worth and self-importance. But that is self-esteem right? No.

In order to maintain a healthy relationship one must know the difference between self-esteem and ego. Ego is negative and has negative effects on your personality and relationships whereas high levels of self-esteem affect you in a positive way.

People having egos are insecure and act like they are superior. They lack confidence in their abilities while those with high self-esteem believe in themselves.

We all have an ego but what matters most is how much we are willing to let it affect our relationships. It needs to be controlled or a lot of important people and relations might be lost.

There was once a group of college friends who got job in the same firm. They were highly ambitious and close too. Gradually, the group got broken as two of the guys who were twins Brad and Josh, had to move back to their hometown as their mother was sick. A girl Linda, got transferred to another branch in another city as she was a great manager and company wanted her to be increase the performance of the branch that was going down.

Two of them, Austin and Emily, had been in love since college but never confessed to each other. Working together gave them a chance to be together and spend more time with each other. They were on the same team and on the night when their department hit their target, the innate jubilance achieving something together how much they liked and valued each other.

They made a great couple Emily was pretty, petite with big eyes and rich brown hair. Austin had been an athlete all his life. He had the built and natural good looks. Things were going great. The company did not have a strict code of co-workers being in a relationship so all was good. Until after few months, Emily got promoted. She was ambitious and hardworking and she had earned that promotion but Austin was not too happy about it. They had joined together and worked together since forever. Austin’s ego didn’t give him room to be happy about her. His male ego rather got annoyed that why wasn’t he chosen because Emily had become the department head now.

Things began to fall apart. They started arguing. He started taking her work related instructions to his ego. He wouldn’t listen he was sarcastic and annoyed all the time. Emily tried a lot to talk to him, to make him understand but he didn’t.

Eventually they broke up when things got really rough. And after a few months Emily resigned. Austin got the position instead. But he had no one to share it with. Everyone knew what a jerk he had been to Emily and he lost respect of many just because of his ego. That’s when it hit him that how he let his ego get to his ego and lose such a girl who was the best in every way.

If only he had listened to her and rather than feeling insecure and feeling his male ego being bruised, he wouldn’t have lost her. All he has now is remorse because she is gone forever.
