On vacation in Las Vegas

I have nothing against Las Vegas, and gambling. Its a beautiful place with clean streats, large sky scrapers, hotels and amazing architecture.

Underneath all off the glitz and glam lies a dirty little truth. Who really pays for all these luxuries?

The hotels are literally fortresses with security guards on every corner. I sat down with my daughter, she's almost 2 in front of a restaurant where we were waiting to be seated. There was an available seat by a slot machine which was 6 feet away from the restaurant. A casino security person walked up and said children were not allowed in the casino. I didn't respond with a comment and peacefully walked away. But these places are very militaristic and not the fun zones people make them out to be.

On our way back to the hotel room, before we could get on the elevator I had to show my room key to another security guard. If I didn't have my room key I would have to show my drivers license. Talk about rediculouse levels of security.

They have police with dogs walking around the casino 24/7. I don't know about you but I don't feel comfortable in places where there is a large number of police or security (New York). If your attracting that many undesireables, why would I want to be there?

Also the people are not very nice. I make an effort to take mental survey on the level of happiness I observe from the general public in places I visit or travel to. I have to tell you Las Vegas scores very low on the happiness scale.

  1. Is it the false pretense of becoming rich by gambling?
  2. Is it the over whelming security and police presence?
  3. Is it the over fascination with money over happiness?

I would say all of the above. But the last point above all shifts the cities culture to an atmosphere where people become slaves to making money instead of being happy first then putting an effort into being financially affluent. In culture Las Vegas is similar to New York. Money makes the people of theses cities happy. When you have a chance visit a city like Philadelphia (focus on history), or Oahu (focus on family, ohana Hawaii) and tell me the difference.

I'm trying to paint a picture I hope most people would understand. Having fun, being relaxed and enjoying ones self can be achieved without the presence of cops, security, and guns. I guess I'm a little different because my family is from the carribean. I have always seen that its possible to live without the treat of violence without a police presence.

I will write a part two of this trip that relates to how crypto currency can prosper in a city like this.

I don’t like having a police presence when I’m trying to relax. Great article.

Thank you tsm. I have seen people who know how to live without threat.
