Facing the Reality of Life; Simulation Vs Actual
Many times we live our lives as it comes. Life can be fun and sometimes though. Whatever shade life throws at us, we have the grace and strength to sail through.
Reading some aviation news today and came across this news on New york post.
https://nyp.st/2Hu2LHu
It is about an Engine explosion of an airplane during a flight with passenger onboard.
Wow...wow...wow, does that sound scary? Yeah sure it does.
There were no casualties. all crews and passenger disembarked safely.
This news actually gave me some deep thought of reflection of what I do. As pilots, you are trained to handle any kind of emergency on board the airplane, inflight or on ground. These trainings are meant to prepare us to save lives to the best of our ability.
how prepared are you really in the real emergency situations.
In my many(few as I see it) years of commercial flying, I have not been faced with an actual life threatening emergencies. And oh...thanking God daily for that.
In this case of engine explosion on air, there is loss of cabin pressure(due to the damaged window), loss of one engine, and possibly loss of some electronic devices. Believe me, it is too much of an emergency for pilots to deal with at the same time.
Emergency decent
Rapid depressurization
Engine failure in flight
Emergency landing
Evacuation
In as much as we are trained to take care of such situations, flying happens fast and some of these actions, if not carried out in seconds could result to disaster.
That brings me to question:
How prepared are you in an actual emergency situations as a crew?
On the other hand:
Reading the reactions of passengers on board the flight and watching the video, makes me realize that I have never really given a thought to what my state of mind would be as a passenger. Would I really stay calm and trust my life in the hands of some pilots I do not see nor know how confidence they are in that situation?
Often have people tell me, how scared they are whenever they fly. The reality dawned on me, it is easy to stay calm as a crew who is in control and knows exactly what is happening. But same cannot be said for a passenger.
Now as a passenger, I am sure I will pass out in these scenario....lol
Realities are different from fictions, simulations, acting. Many times we are never prepared enough. The present state of things actually determines how prepared and how well we can handle certain situations in life.

Thanks, ur message was indeed inspiring.... "Never be a judge until u place yourself in people's shoes"
Thnak you.
Oh...we bless the Lord for the lives of those passengers,. God alone protects us.
Your very right, its good to console a person from a place of experience, you be well verse with the persons situation. A testimony captures a persons heart more than no experience.
Thanks for the great post...lessons learnt indeed. Would be great to have a pilot friend... Hehe...never had one.
Sure to have you as a friend too. Thanks for stopping by.
You are right not many passenger can stay calm during flight. I remembered my flight from Brazil to Mexico, It was 10 hours long. I literarily cant believe I was in the air for 10 hours. If any little thing happened I would have felt uncomfortable. Resteemed.
Lol....I like long flights. I never want my flights to end..lol. thanks for the resteem
You're absolutely correct. Reality is very different from simulation.
That's more than an enough reason to be grateful to God
Thanks dear. I am more than greatful.
Welcome. It's an honour ma'am
I will go with that too. Situations can be very different, we should never have a say, acceptif we have tested both situations and been out to tell the story.
Thank you for sharing this life stories, it makes us understand life even better.
Thanks dear. Even when we taste, the circumstances are never the same. There should be always room to love, forgive and correct.
