Today I Learned

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Today I learned not to do anything unless it feels 100% right. Not 99%. Not an urge. Not an impulse. 100% lined up. Not 99% lined up. And I learned what 99% feels like and how that's not what 100% feels like.

Friends, sometimes we beat ourselves up because we "should have known better," or we messed up. Or maybe we ruined something. But we never can. We never can ruin anything for ourselves. If we look back at the thing we judged ourselves for, we can know that we did the best we could with the information we had and who we were at the time.

How to be better off because of our "mistake?"

We can never make a mistake! Why? Because we learn from every damn thing. Make the best of every single thing in your life! When something happens that you don't want or that doesn't feel good, how can you make the very best of that? What did you learn from that? What you learned is a gift! Do you see now that the lesson you learned is priceless? Think about where that knowledge can now take you in life. Now you can see that maybe that "mistake" that you made was also a big gift. A gift from life or from yourself to yourself. Maybe (definitely) it will lead you to exactly where you wanted to go. Maybe that mistake and that lesson is just what you needed to get where you need to go. We don't have a vast view on the universe. We only have our limited focus.

What if life is our friend and it has our back and it's always conspiring to get us where we want to go?

This is how we live our best life. This is how we be warriors. Nothing bad can ever happen when we go about life this way.

Today I did something that looking back was not a 100% aligned urge. I only know that because I did it, and now I have that clarity. If I hadn't I would not have the clear knowing of what 80% feels like compared to what 100% feels like.

Hindshight is 20/20. Looking back, the timing wasn't right. Something is swirling around me that I'm so excited for that I just pounced. The opportunity wasn't ripe. All the ingredients aren't ready yet.

BUT NOW!
I have that knowledge of what 100% feels like. And with that knowledge... where will that take me for the next 100 years of my life?

A farmer and his son had a beloved stallion who helped the family earn a living. One day, the horse ran away and their neighbors exclaimed, “Your horse ran away, what terrible luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.”

A few days later, the horse returned home, leading a few wild mares back to the farm as well. The neighbors shouted out, “Your horse has returned, and brought several horses home with him. What great luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.”

Later that week, the farmer’s son was trying to break one of the mares and she threw him to the ground, breaking his leg. The villagers cried, “Your son broke his leg, what terrible luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.”

A few weeks later, soldiers from the national army marched through town, recruiting all the able-bodied boys for the army. They did not take the farmer’s son, still recovering from his injury. Friends shouted, “Your boy is spared, what tremendous luck!” To which the farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.”

As humans, we're these incredibly powerful creators, and in so many ways, we have the benefit of creating our own luck! Who knows what will happen in life. Who knows what the mistake will lead to....

What regret do you have in your life? Can you explore it and find the lesson/priceless gem in it?

what I regret could fill the heavens. I'm to tired to talk about it tonight, perhaps in the morning. but I get the message. it's a pillar of the stoic lifestyle and a good one to explore.
