Borran's Beer Review: Must Kuld
Hey everyone!
It's time for another beer review! Today, I'm reviewing a Porter called Must Kuld from the brewery Põhjala. I'm familiar with this brewery, since I have tried some of their products before. They make quality beers, so I'm really looking forward to trying this beer!
Description of the beer:
"A rich porter with smooth honey notes. Brewed with lactose for that extra silky texture. Enjoy on its own or as a dessert at the end of a decadent meal. Contains barley malt and lactose. Malts: Pale malt, Munich malt, Cara pale, Crystal 50, Crystal 150, Crystal 200, Carafa type 2 special, Chocolate malt, Lactose. Hops: Magnum, Goldings."
Brewery facts:
- The brewery's name Põhjala means "northern realm".
- Founded in 2011 by four Estonian beer enthusiasts.
- Soon they were joined by head brewer Chris Pilkington, from the Scottish craft brewery Brewdog.
- Põhjala has a particular focus on porters, barrel ageing, and ingredients from the forests of Estonia.
- 70% of Põhjala's production is exported to over 30 countries.
- In 2018 the company invested nearly 4.9 million euros in moving production to a new brewery.
Here's a list of their most well known beers:
Virmalised
Must Kuld
Öö
Uus Maailm
Jõuluöö
CocoBänger
Meri
Kosmos
Appearance: black color, with a medium brown head.
Smell: roasted malt, coffee, chocolate.
Mouthfeel: full body, low carbonation.
Taste: sweetness, coffee, chocolate, licorice, bitter-sweet aftertaste.
Verdict: Yum! The English name for this beer is “Black Gold” and it really lives up to its name! Definitely one of the best brews I've had in a while now. It's rich with many flavors, I especially like the strong coffee notes.
Põhjala has to be one of my favorite breweries in Europe when it comes to dark beers. I am super-impressed with their brewing skills!
An outstanding porter! My rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Absolutely! They have recently changed the label on the bottle, but it's the same content inside! ;)

I absolutely agree with you, porters are very delicious! <3. Especially during autumn/winter!
Let's enjoy some porter together some day then!
