I am not so sure what you are saying....as I understand maintaining control of one's self and pre-occupation with self diametrically opposed.

Point taken. I was kind of rambling. The point I was trying to make is based on the old verse about telling your neighbor to straighten up their act when they have a speck in their eye but you have a “log” in your own eye. Self reflection is important at times, but you are correct that it is important not to become preoccupied with oneself.
