Motherhood: Not A Walk in the Park

Everytime a mother sees her child sleeping, her heart flutters. Then, her thoughts will run deeper and deeper. Then she'll start questioning herself: "Am I doing enough for my child's welfare?", "Am I being too harsh to my child?", "Am I a good mother?" and more.

I bet mothers like me would really understand what I'm talking about. It's because motherhood has enough complexities that could make the world upside down. Raising a child can be exhausting, overbearing, overwhelming and everything! Indeed, it's not a simple walk in the park! See, you are trying to train a human being that is going to make his/her own mark in this world in the future.

Mothers face different challenges on a daily basis. Whether you're a stay-at-home mom or a working mom, it doesn't matter. The fact is, despite the different circumstances around, a life depends on you and you have you have to take care of it as much as possible.

There are times when mothers are misunderstood and judged. That itself, can have a great impact on themselves: mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Because of this, here are the things people should remember about mothers:

1. Mothers are not perfect.

Yes. They are human too! They make mistakes, like everybody else. Despite the imperfections, mothers try their best to be a good role model to their child/children. Mothers want to make things as flawless as possible for their young ones as humanly possible.

2. Mothers get tired too.

For their energy is not unlimited, they deserve a break once in a while. Taking care of a child while working or doing household chores is exhausting. Mothers need to unwind, breathe and enjoy life. This needs emphasis as many people would think that motherhood has to be 100% focused on the child and mothers don't need the necessary rest. I mean, mothers have lives too!

3. Mothers need help.

A woman with child or children might be a superwoman for she could do so many things at once. But the truth is, she needs all the help from the people around her. As what has been discussed earlier, mothers do get tired and support is indeed needed for their survival on a daily basis. If someone sees a struggling mother, please, your judgment is not helping. Your support and encouraging words might do wonders.

4. Mothers do feel insecure.

Because of overwhelming responsibilities, mothers sometimes ask themselves if they are doing enough and doing good in raising little humans. They do research, they ask questions and they observe other mothers. When they feel they are inadequate, they'll feel bad and blame themselves about it. If a mother you know, doubts herself if she's fulfilling her duties well, just tell her she's doing a great job and she'll be happy and inspired to exert more effort.

5. Mother's love is unconditional.

There's no need for further elaboration. A mother can do anything and everything for her little ones. Even if her children grow up and even have their own family, her love for them is unceasing and never ending.

My own motherhood story is like of everyone else. I am not a perfect mother. I screw up, I fail and I struggle a lot. I have lost my own mother years ago and I only have my instinct and some research to guide me on how to do things for own child. However, despite the difficulties, I must have done something right that I have raised a sweet, loving, healthy and smart little girl. I guess my mama will be so proud of me after all.
