I came across this question the other day on Quora and decided to give it ago.

To my surprise, my answer was viewed more than 1600 times and was sent in Quora Digests.

Here was the answer.

In 220 words or less:

1. Trusting the process

Any of us who started learning more than 3 courses on making money online / starting a business has the blueprint in our hands. But we still keep looking for the magic bullet that fits just right.

If Richard Branson spoke to you about how to start a business face-to-face, you would take his advice seriously. But if you read his autobiographies, you would discount it as “just another collection of business advice.”

You already have the framework. You are just too lazy or too scared to do it because you know it won’t be fun. People rejecting your sales pitch for your product ain’t fun. But that’s what it takes. Stop stalling, trust the process laid out and do the damn work.

You won’t get rich quick, but you will get rich for sure.

2. Doing the goddamn work

Hate to say it but it’s true, and you can’t help but nod. No magic here. Just plain perseverance, consistency and grit.

This shit ain’t fun but that’s what it takes to claw up the ranks.

Watching Michael Jordan practice is one thing. Doing 500 free throws and running up and down the court 50 times a day is a whole other thing.

(The practice numbers ain’t accurate but you get the point.)

This is so true. I thought I'm the only one thinking like this

If Richard Branson spoke to you about how to start a business face-to-face, you would take his advice seriously. But if you read his autobiographies, you would discount it as “just another collection of business advice.”

We all know what should we do to become success but how many people can really follow the advice and put effort step by step to make it success.
Thanks for your sharing :)

You're welcomed @jiashin ! Glad to meet someone who thinks the same way.

I often feel that we are most impacted by the people we meet face-to-face. That's why you rarely meet successful people who cite a book author as their mentor. Often times, it's someone they personally worked for before or are partners with in real life.

Absolutely! These are the VERY reasons why people kept parting with their hard earned money attending courses after courses and workshops after workshops thinking they can just shortcut the whole process, without putting in the hours.

There is really NO magic or secrets to success in life...All the information is readily available.

One just needs to put in the damn work and be patient. And success will follow

Yup! haha. i was guilty of that myself. Watching all Ramit Sethi's courses, Tai Lopez's even. But after a while, the advice is all the same. You have all the business systems in mind. The only thing left to do is to do the damn work.

There is more to it than just following the course material. Different topic, market/niche, ability to connect with potential buyers, having sufficient capital for say ads, ability to write well, expertise, etc. There are quite a lot of variables that can mean the difference between earning a few dollars each month, and having substantial side income.

I say this because I'm earning money online via affiliate marketing, own products, etc. now. It is not as easy as just follow the course. I was tempted to drop money into courses in the past, but at the end, I didn't. Not to say a course is not helpful.

Besides that, some times what people teach may not be that effective by the time you apply it, so sometimes it is better to do what the so call experts do, rather than do what they tell you.

Reminds me of the adage "don't listen to what I say, watch what I do." Thank you for your wise words @jameswoo !

Don't listen to what I say, watch what I do

Hmm...this sounds a lot like Gary Vaynerchuck

It is his. Haha. Someone has been watching DailyVee.
"I'm not for getting a private jet, I'm for playing it big so I can get the New York Jets."

LOL! Oh yeahh..You are a fan too I suppose? Loved Gary Vee for his "in your face kinda honesty" that makes me just wanna get up and grind everyday. We need more real entrepreneurs like him instead of those who is full of fluff with no substance
