Recently there is a lot of focus being put on recycling and its resulting benefits, however there is still a huge number of people that do not recycle their unwanted waste. This has inspired me to write this article with the hopes that I can educate people into understanding the need for recycling and the direct impact that it can have on our environment.

What is Recycling?

Recycling is the process of collecting and converting unwanted waste materials into new materials that can be reused, thus reducing the need for harvesting new raw materials. This as a result reduces energy consumption as well as both air and water pollution.

So for those of you that have not started recycling already, below are 5 good reasons why you should start recycling today.

Reason Number 1#

Waste that is not recycled will most likely end up being used as landfill or burnt which in turn causes both air and water pollution. The more waste that people recycle, the less waste will avaliable to cause such pollution.

Landfills and incineration produce a large variety of pollutants that are extremely harmful to both the environment and humans alike.

Reason Number 2#

Recycling of waste materials into new usable materials eliminates the need for the use of virgin raw materials by manufacturing companies thus saving energy and conserving our natural resources.

Studies have shown that manufacturing with the use of recycled aluminum cans uses 95% less energy

Reason Number 3#

Unmanaged waste has a direct impact on the environment, not only does it pollute the air and find its way into our water sources, it is also extremely hazardous towards our wildlife.

In the picture above you can see just how dangerous and life threatening unmanaged waste can be to the wildlife. Unmanaged waste often ends up being ingested or even tangled around animals itself.

Reason Number 4#

Recycling of paper has a major effect on the amount of trees that are being cut down each year by paper manufactures. Unfortunately this does not eliminate the use of trees in the act of papermaking however this does tremendously reduce the amount of strain put on our forests.

A ordinary sheet of paper can be recycled and reused up to six times before its fibres are lost.

Reason Number 5#

If the above four reasons are not convincing enough for you, and for those of you who are saying, "That's all good and well but how can we benefit from it?" Well, other than the fact that the act of recycling can lessen the damages we caused to our planet, recycling also creates jobs and can provide a steady income.

Recycling is labour intensive forcing larger manufacturers that depend on recycled materials to hire more workers resulting in job creation. There are also waste collection points which are set up by these manufactures, where they offer you cash in exchange for your recyclable goods.

So there you have it my friends, I hope this article has impacted you in some way and perhaps inspired you to start recycling today. The reasons listed above are just some of the many reasons why you should start recycling today.

Nise post!!

I don't know when we will start proper recycling, when people can't even put their rubbish in the trash can!!

Thanks @rynow, It is so true but we have to try and educate people so that they realise what they are doing is wrong. It is truly sad but some people don't even realise the extent of their actions, to them it is just another day at the beach.

True, that happens a lot, I plead guilty LOL

Thanks for this post, that photo of the turtle eating the plastic, so sad. Recycling is a massive industry, and you can make a lot of money from it. But I guess its not a very sexy business, like mobile toilets - very lucrative but not too sexy LOL.

Thanks for the upvote earlier today, much appreciated. Thanks for following me!! I hope you have a WONDERFUL AND BLESSED DAY! 😀 😃 😄 😁

LOL, thank you too and you are most welcome. Steemit is a huge ocean and we little minnows need to school together to survive 😀
