HOW TO: Start a company ~
We must remember that start-up companies are not the same as established companies.
Start-up companies aim to bring a product or service offering to life to facilitate a certain need for a specific market.
9 out of 10 Start ups FAIL according to studies. This is due to various factors and this post will aim to gather as many key tips to increase your chances for success.
The success of a company heavily relies on the founders ability to understand and attend to the needs of the start-up. Founders and co-founders should have leadership and management qualities as well as a strong sense of self-empowerment and a constant motivation to be better than the person they were the day before.
A hunger for success, a lack of satisfaction and a passion for life are 3 ingredients that reduce your chances of failing, (Even though there is no such thing as failing, there is only falling and getting back up with stronger legs)
Quick Tip: If you fail, Fail Fast & Cheap and try again!
Requirement No 1: Find a service or product.
(Tip: Ask yourself which industry you are the most passionate about and then study it as much as you can.)
The way to find a service or product is to identify a need within a certain grouping of people (Market). That need is the result of a problem and your business is the solution to it.
Requirement No 2: Find a customer.
The best thing you can do is to directly verify your solution with your customers before you even have the product or service. This way, you avoid unnecessary cost and time on something that they may not end up buying.
(Tip: Conduct customer interviews by doing a customer segment of who your market is - Then simply approach them and kindly ask for 10 minutes of their time to question them about the problem they have and your solution)
Requirement No 3: Design a logo, website and social media pages.
Once you have a customer, you can begin to spend resources and time on building the company and the brand.
It is now easy to create your own logo, website and social media marketing. With a bit of learning and practice, you can quickly become familiar with these tools that will also be beneficial in other areas of your life.
(Tip: You could also outsource (Hire) the design work, website work and social media management work to friends or small companies that would do it for a reasonable price if you do not have the time to do it yourself)
Requirement No 4: Register your company + Legalities
Find out how to register a company and the special requirements in your country to do so.
Also, find out who the key players are in your industry.
Consulting with a lawyer, business mentor or and industry specialist can also help and be more efficient.
(Tip: Every industry is different so make sure that you know as much as you can on yours. Also, never stop learning more! There is always more!)
Requirement No 5: Deliver on your promise.
Now that you have everything in place, be sure to deliver in a way that is different than your competition and unique. This way, retaining customers is much easier and retaining customers is the livelihood of most start-up companies.
