Why I'm Happily Un-Married (Part I)

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemians!

I've been working on this comic project for a while and I wanted to share this with you.
I know a number of your are pretty well into the marrying age and at this point in our lives, we've been asked questions like:

"When are you going to get married?"
"What about having kids? Your biological clock is ticking!"

So I've come up with a compilation to answer all of these annoying questions once and for all!
These are experiences of unmarried 20 to 30-somethings who are tired of their lives being a series of questions.

The post comes in three parts to accommodate all the reasons. Resteem and Upvote to support more are like this! Enjoy! :)

"I am happily unmarried because.."

Commitment issues due to trust issues… Just got so many issues. –Apple

I enjoy having no commitments... I mean who doesn’t? – Reynel, 25

No commitment = freedom! – Kris, 27

The idea of marriage is overwhelming. It's hard to commit in a relationship that will last a lifetime.-Ericka, 24

Don't need to be married to be committed. Yes, you can be committed for free. – Hazel, 30

Weddings are expensive and blown-up! If ever we get married, I wouldn't even mind a simple civil ceremony and much prefer it to an extravagant church wedding. But nooo, relatives won't have that. Sumo. - Nadine, 27

I’m trying to swerve the “wedding hype” of most women here in America. Wedding budget is ridiculously high! As high as a down payment for a house and car? I feel like my way of taking care of my financials is more on the practical side. –Cristina, 24

c3.jpg

This experience was shared by a friend. She found out at her boyfriend of 9 years had been cheating on her. When I asked her what she had learned from that experience, she tells me that it’s important to trust yourself and know your worth. I say she dodged a bullet. –D

Still single maybe because I learn to live alone, by that I mean "4 years after break-up kinda life". It is, I lose the capacity to fall in love back again, but not because l feel hate or anger but because all the affection and passion of love is gone. I think that’s it. –Rick, 27

c4.jpg

Too lazy to go out and too stubborn to convince myself that I'm already old, even my own mom reminds me of it… Anyways, is math related to science? Lol JK. –Kris, 27

c5.jpg

I want to spend my wedding budget for traveling! Clearly, traveling is way more of a priority than tying the knot LOL!! I’d elope if it weren’t for my family and my fiancé’s family. But seryoso, true story. –Cristina, 24

We'd rather spend wedding money on travel and food. -Nadine, 27

c6.jpg

I have dreams, money and family. – Mabzicle, 30

When you are still hooked in achieving your dreams that you don’t want your partner to wait for so long for him to propose… So better stay single. – Jem, 33

c7.jpg

We're both indifferent. There are other priorities we need to handle first. – Emme, 28

We’re both indifferent. –Rox, 24

c8.jpg

'Cause I don't have a girlfriend. Who am I supposed to tie the knot with? –Jan,28

I do want to be in a relationship, to be able to lean on my partner or my knight in shining armor when I’m a damsel in distress but, that need can already be given by my closest friends. Nothing last forever, so I know my friends would be someday have their own life, be married. I’ll take my time and just enjoy life until someone comes along my side. –Talisaro Chijo

C9.jpg

Just to be defiant: all the pressure from family members is making me not want to get married even more. At least not in the near future. –Nadine, 27

For me, Graduate Studies is hell. I can only imagine doing Grad Studies when you have to take care of other people. I hold married people who have children and still take Grad Studies in such high regard because they can balance taking care of their families and their studies. Can’t say the same for me. Thesis now, marriage later. –D

What about you? What are your reasons for being "Happily Unmarried"? :)

(Part II after a while!)
Resteem and Upvote so so you can help me give more reasons. :)

Hello, lab! You're back and curied at that! Congratulations! To a merry Christmas! ;) See you soon! Milktea date! -Lai

Hello lab! Slowly picking up because it's been a while. Please do! I miss you <3

Why I'm happily unmarried.
My ex-wife is a whore.

Aww man, that sucks. Pun not intended. But joking aside, I hope you'll find someone decent! :)

good riddance, dude @themadgoat. as long as you're happy! that matters more. :)

I'm good. It helps that she is now with a cocaine addict who has a face tattoo and I'm successful and traveled the world. At this point, I'm not even mad. I feel sorry for her.

For anyone in an ending relationship, remember: "I am the prize, not them."

Sad. Hope you find me. Hahaha I'm single @themadgoat

Am happily married, connections are established on respect, faith, humility and love.

All the best! <3 we hope to follow suit. :D some soon, some.. well. A bit later :)

Am happily married too. Not a bed of roses definitely but like what @bestgift said, respect, faith, humility and love.

Well said @bestgift that's why it's hard to find someone to tie the knot with

Pff always this question! And i am just 19, I dont see myself marrying the coming 10 years! I always tell them "I am alone but less lonely than most people, even while I am travelling alone" thabk you for sharing adevaessparango!

Regards,
Sha :)

when you're not married it's "when will you marry?" and when you're married it becomes "when will you have kids?" haha. i know the feels @xsasj! haha

@adevaesparrago just curious why are u still single?

Thanks @deveerei! Having fun! :) missed steemit.

@adevaesparrago well I can't state my reason for being "happily unmarried" because I've never been married but here's the thing life is too short to engage anything that makes you less happy or reduces your potential as a human, am glad that even though your marriage had to dissolve, you're happy, your happiness is all that matters to you and you shouldn't let no one to steal it from you, lest I forget, you write well...keep it up!

thank you @krystall! i agree! people enjoy life differently, too :) cheers!

I am happily married but I agree with some of your points, actually most of them.
It is usually the behaviors or habits of your community / family that drives you away from the idea of settling down and starting a family.
And sure a successful marriage takes sacrifices from both and its hard but there are the feelings that cant be compared to anything in the world like holding your child for the first time or spending christmas with your spouse and happy children, there is nothing in the world that compares to that feeling

true! i think it's a very big turning point in life. that's why i think people, specially young people, are shying away from it, or distracting themselves, well, ourselves. but we'll get there... eventually. thank you for sharing @supremead!

I agree I want to be a mom@supermad

This is so amazing and I love your art style!

It doesn`t matter if you are single/ in a relationship/ married/divorced antd etc as long as you are feeling happy :) but nice post :)

happiness is found in different ways, in different places, and sometimes even through different people. such is life! happiness matters more. thanks @annie.kutelova~!

Happily unmarried because I will never settle with someone just to settle. Being single and alone is better than being in relationship and alone. Love your work! :)
