Really interesting article. Our local electric company sent us a package of LED bulbs on request online. I'm looking forward to the savings! I spend $86 usd a month on budget plan for electric.

Wow, free bulbs, that's a great deal! It's a little hard to notice month to month savings until you replace a lot of Watts, but it will slowly add up.

If electricity is 12 cents a KW/h over the course of its lifespan, it adds up.

Over about 10 years (around 6 hours a day), to compare similar lights:
10W LED uses $24.00 of electricity no replacement needed (lasts 20,000 hours ~ 10 cents a month)
20W CFL uses $48.00 of electricity and has to be replaced 1 time (lasts 10,000 hours ~ 20 cents a month)
100W incandescent bulb uses $240.00 of electricity and has to be replaced 19 times (lasts 1,000 hours ~1 dollar a month)
Unless your hobby is changing light bulbs, it also saves you time and maybe even light bulb cost (they are getting cheaper).

I need to replace the tube ones in the kitchen and the motion sensor light outside by the door. They don't send those. :)
