Where Adams and Jefferson were wrongsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #liberty7 years ago

These two didn't get much wrong, so let's look at a couple of quotes and pinpoint an example where each was actually wrong

I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce, and agriculture, in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain.
John Adams

What John misses is that all men ( and all women interested in liberty) must study politics and war; the onslaught of corruption and banditry never ends...even when that banditry comes from government itself. Let each son and grandson study the things that interest him as he will...
but let him (or her) first understand how to defend home and neighborhood from the realities of life

As for Jefferson, the quote I had in mind was this...

In matters of principle, stand like a rock; in matters of taste, swim with the current.

Happily, I find that this is NOT traced back to Jefferson, but that people started associating him with this quote in...1973.

So my title is a bit wrong.

That's fine, but I'll go with my initial criticism of the statement anyhow ;>

The section of the quote regarding principle is spot on, but the part about fashion?

There are more important things for a man to concern himself with than fashion, properly a game for women and metros.

True, we are social animals, and part of our social games are based upon this...concept of style.

But a man should be prepared at all times to be able to fight in defense of liberty and of family. This means short hair an enemy can not get a hold of, and clothes that do not hinder combat movement.

It is also true that many cultures have had great warriors with long hair or peacocky clothes, and that styles often hindered fighting capability.

The thing about history is that it need not cycle simply because...we can learn from and avoid mistakes of the past.

Secondly, all men should be leaders ( yes, this is possible by recognizing when other men are right or when they are the best for a specific task); this means not being dressed by people who understand flash but not function. Make your own damn decision about what to wear. If you are such as bad-ass warrior that you can kick ass dressed like a drag queen and hair past your ass, then you will be ignoring me anyway!

Third; subversions of culture are often political in nature (Helloooooo Cultural Marxism), careful analysis of taste and style instead of slavish devotion to groupherding is the duty of a man.

Short hair...functional clothing...a weapon...this is all the style a man needs.

So we'll finish with one of Jefferson's better quotes...

Sort:

Well, we will have an advantage over the other side if a fight breaks out, haha. A bunch of dudes with tight ass skinny jeans and long hair, with a manicured face full of makeup, more time spent on the look than the actual preparation.

those'll be the ones we put on point...while the enemy is laughing so hard they can't see, the real troops will flank em and hit em from the blind side LOL

Haha... I was thinking the enemy would be full of those dudes. Well either way, no loss to me.

If the fighting gets to the point that it's up close and personal the old out of shape farts are doomed...no matter how long their hair is.

I'd prefer to pick them off in the next zip code...or further away than that.

LOL there is that! Each man must judge how to fight!

well...texans pretty much carry guns when they are dressed...and sword(canes)s are legal carry now.
I have no intention of allowing any antagonist to get any closer than that.

did you ever find a good sword-cane?

I think Cold Steel makes what I want.
I already have several but I doubt that they are very good quality.

I can only speak for the Cold Steel gladius...cheap in price, weell made for the price, will do the job

Also see if United Cutlery makes one...I bought a small dagger from them that is very well made but cheap for the price, hell it looks better made than the Smith & Wesson knife(yes) I picked up of the same size...but 10 bucks more

I'll do that.
Thanks for the heads up.
United Cutlery has as website that's damn hard to navigate.
the only sword canes I've noted are $$$$$$

also look at Amazon. Bezos is a pinko, but it's easy as hell to order through there

just bought my buddy a tomahawk/pipe from there lol

Ah come now, I have long hair and consider myself a great Viking warrior. ;)

Do like the criticism of the first quote. I believe that liberty and combat should be base necessities, if not sole focuses. We need philosophers and mathematicians, but we need warriors for liberty much more, in many cases.

that's why I threw in that line about bad-asses in drag queen clothing LOL

I didnt say it in my article, but I think in terms of shaving percentile points...to be able to fight w/ maximum efficiency in all situations

and @everittdmickey has the right idea; keep em off you at range, and you can dress how you damn like!

Haha oh I've seen the results in MMA at least. Fighters with a lot of hair tended to get caught in chokes far more often because they can't slip out. Anyone who has seen a ghetto trash female brawl knows how bad things get when the enemy gets a grip on the hair.

As for me? I feel as if I can put the smackdown with my hair up or down. ;)

Range is always key. If you can reach out and touch an enemy before they can reach you, always do and do so with deadly accuracy.

you can get a feel for what you can do in sparring, but brawls tend to be anything goes.

if somebody gets you from ambush, then they got you, long hair or no.

maybe I'm against long hair for us coz when i let my hair grow out I get a stupid looking Jewfro and want to punch myself in my hippie looking face LOL

Hahaha I look like a lumpy potato when I shave my head, so I suppose I'm the opposite.

Situational Awareness is key in any situation. Someone who has the lay of the land and can't be ambushed can wear whatever they want.

pretty much it.

So I'll back off my claim by just a hair, and we won't have to call you @lumpythelibrarian

Honestly LumpyTheLibrarian sounds pretty catchy...

lol, you dont want to walk around with a lumpy shaped head tho!

I am in a bit of disagreement with your great post. I want my liberty and I wish to have to not ever study war and politics. I rather spend my time on things I consider better. War is an unnecessary evil bestowed upon mankind. Why must we not choose from amongst us those suited best to deliver in action and pay them handsomely. I only say this because I have been involved in wars and I see that as a part of my life wasted and humanity wasted. I wish I had taken that time to learn to play guitar or just travelled or something else.
If by study you mean have a basic knowledge of it, then I agree. I wish to see more people studying arts and sciences and less people studying war and politics.
I like J. Adams a lot and I think his heart was in the right place.

If by study you mean have a basic knowledge of it, then I agree. I wish to see more people studying arts and sciences and less people studying war and politics.

IF a basic knowledge takes care of the need, that is good

IF you can trust the men best suited to be defenders, then that is good.

Those are judgements you must make for yourself.

I understand your reservations, and I am sorry that you have had those painful experiences.

Thank you for sharing them and your view.

Don't wanna study war no more. I agree with that, no question.

It's the guiding philosophy behind all of it that we need. If self defense, physical or intellectual, is not studied, then anyone who wishes can take away our liberty with the weapons of war and the chains of politics.

Luckily, the very same philosophy that applies to war and politics, applies to the study of sciences and the arts.

Common admit it, you just hate how the John Adams quote leads Gender Studies and all that non-sense :D

LOLOL Good one!

I must study war and politics so my great-great-grandson can wear eye shadow and cut off his penis

You have a lot of awesome posts, but this is by far one of your best ones man. I needed this one today! Thanks.
