My Son is Making Me Do This! (Can anybody see this?)

in #learning8 years ago (edited)

A couple of days ago I got an e-mail from my son. It contained the video, "Steemit is A Game Changer And Here's Why".
I watched the video and it made no sense to me at all. I watched it twice, and it still doesn't make any sense to me. I'm 63 and I have a hard enough time trying to figure out how to set today's date on the dock of my new Mac. I can see the day and time up on the right hand corner, but I can't figure out how to set the date. Oh well, that's ok, I've got a calendar on the wall in the kitchen, and I need the exercise.

So, I figured out how to create one of those generated passwords and I'll sure be careful not to loose it. Now I've opened a Steemit account. Progress is being made! What next? I don't know. I can postpone trying to understand what Steemit is all about--it's just not sinking in tonight. I'll try to put more effort into understanding tomorrow. It's past 11pm, and I'm tired, but I've got to write something because I told my son that I would try to write something. And I don't think that writing just one paragraph would count as writing something.

I can hear my cat through the open window out under the carport. He's growling at something. I don't know what but it doesn't matter anyway because I have to sit here and keep writing. Mosquitos are biting at my legs. And I've only got 29% power left on my battery. That's it! Enough writing for tonight!

I see that I am going to have to break down and read the directions on how to use this Steemit thing. I posted 3 paragraphs 10 hours ago and got 2 "views", and one of those views was from me. Ohhhhh! Why did my son make me do this! He's cruel and heartless to torture me like this. But he thinks I can do it. He reminded me about the time back around 1998 when I had just bought my new Brother Electric Typewriter to replace my old Sears Electric Typewriter that my father had bought me in the late '60's. I had to buy the new one because Sears didn't sell the cloth black and red ink ribbons anymore.

Anyhow, my son (and I'm sure the neighbors too) could hear me at the kitchen table "clacking away" on that Brother Typewriter, occasionally cussing because quite often I'd have to stop and find the "White Out" to correct a mistake. Usually the White Out would be either too wet or too dry, and I'd end up having to sort of smooth it out over the unwanted letter or word with a finger or thumb or both. You know, it's not easy getting that white stuff off your fingertips!

One night my son, I'll start referring to him by his name here because I can't keep saying, my son over and over throughout this writing. Well, I guess I can, because no one is going to read this. But, anyway, I'll use his name. Luciano. I know, that's kind of an unusual name to name a kid, but that's another story. One I'll probably never get to tell because no one is going to read that either. I am so fill of self-confidence.

Back to the story. Must stay focused, but all I can think of at this moment is today's "To Do List", and writing here was not on that list. Now it is. Now it's at the top of my "To Do List" because I said I'd try to do this. When I say I'll do something, I keep my word. I hope I can get at least a dozen people to take a peek at my attempt to write something on Steemit.

Now I forgot what I was writing about. Oh yah! Luciano was at his desk in the living room listening to me clacking away on my new electric typewriter back around 1998. He came into the kitchen and told me that a computer can be used like a type writer and that it can correct mistakes and can move and rearrange sentences and paragraphs so I wouldn't have to use White Out anymore. AND, he assured me, it's EASY to learn.

My reply, "NOPE, no way! I hate computers! I'll never understand how to use one! It's too hard. I can't learn." He told me he would teach me how to do it. And he told me that once I learned how to use the computer like a type writer, I'd never go back to the type writer again. Well, it took a few days before I gave in and he convinced me to at least look at what the computer can do.

Unconvinced, yet hopeful, I followed him into the living room to his computer. He showed me how to write a sentence on it, how to back space, how to delete--oh my gosh! Delete! Backspace and delete! No more White Out! No more white stained fingertips! No more closing the kitchen windows so I wouldn't disturb the neighbors with the nightly clackity, clack, clack of my Brother Electric Typewriter! Holy Cow how did I ever write anything without a computer?

That's enough writing for today. I really, really have to get out of my PJ's and at least get something else done on my "To Do List". Like get my car inspection done and register it. That's important. No one is going to read this anyway. I'll come back later today or tomorrow and try to write some more. I don't even know if I'm posting it correctly or if anyone can see it. But, I did get one "view" last night, so I guess it can be seen.

Hey, this is all just an experiment for me. I'm not too enthusiastic about it. And I know that my grammar isn't the best. But I said I'd try Steemit, and I am trying it, so that's all that matters. Now to get the car inspected.

Oh yah, I don't know what the "tags" are or how to use them. I'll read about that later, or maybe Luciano will come up to visit and he can show me how to use the "tags". I use any excuse I can to get him up here to visit his mother. Ha!
